Buyckx Shines as Tigers Fall to Eagles

CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – Sophomore Samantha Buyckx had an outstanding afternoon as the Clemson women’s tennis team (6-5, 0-3 ACC) fell to Boston College (5-3, 2-1 ACC) by a score of 5-2.  The Tigers came out strong and secured doubles victories on Courts 2 and 3 to earn the point. Samantha Buyck and Ali Despain earned a 6-4 victory on Court 2 and improved to 4-1 on the season as a pair.  Boston College regained control of the match early in singles play, jumping out to a 3-1 lead. Buyckx continued her successful day, earning the lone Clemson victory in singles by a score of 7-5, 6-2 on Court 2.  “I was proud of the way we stepped up in doubles today,” said Head Coach Christy Lynch. “BC came out and played extremely well in singles. Samantha had a great day and played aggressive and smart.” Up next, the Tigers conclude their five game roadstand with an ACC battle with Syracuse on Sunday. Tigers Fall to Seminoles in First ACC Contest

Tallahassee, FL - In its first ACC match of the 2022 season, the Clemson Tigers (6-2, 0-1 ACC) suffered their first conference loss at the hands of No. 20 FSU (6-2, 1-0 ACC) by a score of 3-4. The Seminoles took a decisive lead as they clinched the doubles point early in the competition with #29 Petra Hule and Lesedi Jacobs leading the charge. In singles, Jenna Thompson set the tone early with a 6-4, 6-1 win on Court 4 over Lesedi Jacobs. Florida State responded, claiming the next three singles behind a two set victory from Hule. Ali DeSpain earned a first-set victory over Olympe Lancelot, 6-0. Lancelot forced a third set, however, DeSpain held on to win 6-0, 3-6, 7-6 (7-3). Ed Duckworth Passes Away at 85

CLEMSON, S.C. Clemson alumni and the namesake of the Duckworth Family Tennis Facility, Ed Duckworth, passed away on Monday, Feb. 14 at the age of 85.  An avid fan of the Clemson tennis programs, Ed and Jane Duckworth led the charge in the building of the Duckworth Family Tennis Facility, one of the nicest tennis facilities in the nation. Ed and Jane said that other than their marriage, children and grandchildren, it is their proudest accomplishment. “Ed was an incredible person as well as an ambassador for Clemson Athletics and the Clemson Tennis programs,” says Men’s Tennis Head Coach Robbie Weiss. “Ed and Jane Duckworth are the pillars and foundation of the tennis programs here at Clemson, and Ed will be greatly missed. Tigers Fight Valiantly but Fall to Gamecocks, 4-2

COLUMBIA, S.C. – The Clemson Tigers (6-2) dropped an incredible match that went down to the wire against South Carolina (2-4) on Sunday afternoon by a final score of 4-2. The Tigers dropped the doubles point, but put up an extraordinary battle in singles that put them in a position to win with just two matches left to be completed. However, Clemson fell just short of a comeback victory and dropped to 27-31 all-time against its in-state rival.  The doubles point went to South Carolina after wins on Court 2 and Court 3. Daniella Medvedeva and Cristina Mayorova jumped out to a 3-0 lead on line 1 but their match was abandoned once the Gamecocks clinched the point.  In singles play, Samantha Buyckx earned a convincing win on Court 6 by a score of 6-3, 6-1 to keep Clemson in arms reach of a comeback. Tigers Take Down Chanticleers to Advance to 5-0

CLEMSON, S.C. – The Clemson Tigers (5-0) dismantled the Coastal Carolina Chanticleers (0-2) on Friday afternoon by a final score of 6-1. The Tigers took the doubles point and never relinquished control of the match, ultimately earning the victory and remaining undefeated headed into the team’s first road trip on Sunday.  Cristina Mayorova and Dani Medvedeva won their doubles match 6-3, and just moments later Samantha Buyckx and Ali DeSpain came out on the positive end of a long rally on Court 3 that concluded with a backhanded Buyckx winner down the right side of the court, giving Clemson the doubles point.  Jenna Thompson made quick work on Court 4, winning her matchup 6-0, 6-2 and putting the Tigers up 2-0.
