morning, the point breeze row home on the 1700 block of south taylor was fully ablaze. the arriving companies, fast, aggressive attack. philadelphia firefighters racing against time, to douse flames and rescue elderly man reported trapped on the home s second floor. it was a laid nay car going by and kept saying oh, my god the house is on fire. ruth heard screams and then let me look out my window. the shade up there, i seen the flames. hours later sad to learn firefighters were unable to rescue her long time neighbor, whom she says, lived in that house for decades. the man she tells us was a loving father, and a world war ii veteran by the name of benjamin boone. very nice person. firefighters say, the victim was found on the first floor of the home, he would not survive. this fire ultimately brought 11 fire companies, and more than 40 firefighters and medics, other fire department personnel to the scene. again, every fire death is a tragedy. offi ....

missed. in the dark of night, there were only sounds. i heard someone hollering and screaming. ruth rushed to her window to see her 92-year-old neighbor s row home glowing from fire. i saw the flames. i said, oh, my gosh. the screaming and hollering. that s when i got the phone and dialed 911. good firefighters were on the scene three minutes later. 11 fire companies and 40 firefighters and medics rushed to his aid. despite their best efforts, they weren t able to save the veteran. he was not able to make it out on his own. he had one leg, but he used a wheelchair and a walker. when resuwas no longer an option, firefighters went in to recover benjamin boone s body. his burned out wheelchair and other personal belongings a reminder to everyone here of exactly what was lost. he was a very nice person. the cause of the fire is under investigation. whether there were working smoke detectors inside of the home, something they re working very hard to figure out ....
