>> i am dave clark. let's check weather and traffic. steve, i went outside trying to find some sunshine. >> oh, no? didn't find it. >> anything anybody can find it. a drizzle out there. fog reported for many. the rain is kind of picking up. as we progress through the day, it will continue to do so and really crank up tomorrow. this morning very mild, muggy, a lot of humidity in the air, as i said. bad hair day, probably. bad hair day, pam. >> but you're not saying that my hair -- >> no, not you. there is a lot of moisture in the air. napa valley marathon on sunday. if you are running it, working it, attending it, i tweeted this out. i think naomi is participating. i think the key issue is the coder temps more so than the rain. you are going to notice a huge difference in the temps. we are going to go from mild and muggy to cold and windy by sunday morning. our system is pumping in a lot of cloud cover. there is not just not much organized rain. some areas where radar picks up. saturday's the main system. heavy rain. flood advisory possible. wind advisories as well. this is through saturday. i mean, by sunday night and monday another system. that will probably double the amounts. rain is beginning to pick up and fog is in the picture. here's what we are waiting for that. that slug of moisture is taking aim at us. look at the temps. 50s and 60s. i mean, it's really mild. it's a morning of foggy, muggy conditions and rain picks up through the day, cranks up over the weekend. temperatures in the 60s. sal, 7:02. a couple of friday issues you are dealing with? >> yeah, a couple of things, steve. we are looking at some of the commutes. they are a little busy now, although they are not as bad as they were, say, yesterday. starting off with a look at the toll plaza, that's a 15 to 20-minute delay getting into san francisco. once you make it onto the bridge, it does look okay getting into the city. in the east bay, the commute in general is not too bad. a live picture of interstate 88 to and you see for yourself it looks good. if we go to the maps of that same general area i am happy to say we don't see a lot of slow traffic on 580 or 24 from livermore to dublin. so definitely a little bit lighter than usual on this friday. but we do have some trouble. a man is dead after being involved in a hit-and-run accident at a heavily used intersection in san jose. ktvu's janine de la vega joins us live at the scene where this is still impacting traffic. janine. >> reporter: yes, it is. it's at camden and lee, sal. this is a heavily used intersection here. so police are saying please avoid this area. investigators are here. you can see this accident scene is very large. there is glass and debris everywhere. police tell us this happened just before three this morning. an suv and a pickup truck collided in a t-bone accident. the force of the impact sent both vehicles spinning and one crashed there onto the sidewalk. the driver of the pickup truck was ejected and died at the scene. when officers arrived they found a young man who appeared to be intoxicated. they think he was the occupant of the suv, but unsure if he is the drivers traffic investigation unit is here now. you can see they are taking photos and measurements and trying figure out what the speeds were of the vehicles involved. but you at this time we just don't know. we can only make guesses based upon where the vehicles landed. but we know it was a major crash. we don't know much more than that. >> reporter: police are interviewing the man who stayed behind to get some more information. officers are looking to see if speed and alcohol were factors in this accident. the coroner has taken away the body at this point. we don't know if it was a person from the neighborhood. it appears he may have been on his way to work. we have seen a hardhat, reflective vest and other items. this person has not been identified. the coroner is going to be looking into the cause of death and work on contacting his next of kin. pam. >> all right. thank you, janine. 7:05 is the time. we are learning more about the couple who was the target of an apparent random attack in san francisco's dubose triangle. we received these pictures of the victim's injuries. dean ayers says he and his wife are taking a walk on henry street when they walked by four men who attacked them. had his wife as punched. she suffered skull fractures when she hit her head the concrete. it happened on february 23 just days after he had last housing authority mother. police only have a description of one of the suspects. he is five feet and a half inches tall, possibly latino, in his early 20s with large dark curly hair tied into a ponytail. there is a gofundme page that has been set up to help the couple. time is 7:05. water fountains, they are off at healdsburg junior high school because of elevated levels of lead. there were high levels of led at healdsburg elementary in november. now, according to the press democrat, healdsburg junior high is passing out bottled water. they have moved their food preparation to another school as a precaution. the county is conducting more tests on the water, but the results may take weeks to come back. it could be tougher to find a seat on bart this morning. a new report shows a growing number of bart trains are out ofs service because of a technical issue in the transbay tube. ktvu fox 2's alex savidge joins us from san francisco. you are at the embarcadero station. what are riders saying, alex? >> reporter: they are a bit concerned they may face more crowded trains. that certainly is a possibility here. i did just hear back from a bart spokesperson and she says the agency has a problem here. they are losing cars at really a troubling rate and they are trying to pinpoint exactly what the problem is. they haven't been able to figure out exactly what it is. some sort of a technical issue that relates to the transbay tube. that's where the cars are being knocked out of service between the east bay and san francisco. right now there are about 80 cars that are being repaired at the maintenance yard. they have burned out electrical components on their propulsions systems. i am told by bart that 40 cars were taken out of service on monday alone. bart officials suspect that the cars are being damaged by some kind of a power surge as they move through a substation or pass by a substation that's near the exist end of the tube on the oakland side. of course, this is certainly not the news that riders want to he has. i talked with one woman who commutes on bart. she told me she trusts bart will get things fixed. >> maybe shorter trains. maybe a, you know, you never know what's -- i have ridden for three, three and a half years every day and i have seen them go through ups and downs. i complain about it. but you know what? it's better than driving. >> reporter: now, bart representatives told me this has been a persistent problem, but it has really gotten worse in the past couple of weeks. the "san francisco chronicle" is reporting that the problem may be related to new railway that was installed late last year -- i should say during last summer. that's when they put in a whole bunch of new tracks in the transbay tube and near the west oakland station. "the chronicle" is reporting that may be a part of the reason that all of these cars are being knocked out of service. i asked a bart representative this morning what the timeframe is, pam, to get these cars back into service. she said it's an on going problem. she understanding some of the cars taken out of service may be back in use. it's unclear when they expect to have this you issue fully resolved. >> changing situation day to day, it sounds like? >> reporter: that's what it sounds like. >> thank you, alex. 7:09 is the time. bart already getting ready to try out a new rewards program as well to ease the overcrowding. it's called bart perks. passengers would earn points by you riding at off peak times. those points could be used to get rewards ranging from credit it's on your clipper card to cash prizes. >> i am an attorney. so it would work as long as my -- >> bart and the san francisco county transportation authority are reaching out to employers who are located near downtown san francisco bart stations and encouraging them to have their employees sign up and to let them work in those off-peak hours. >> the program is set to roll out a six-month test run this spring. bart says it got the idea from a transit system in singapore, which apparently has been very successful. syrian smugglers linked to the tragic drowning of a three-year-old boy, they were seen earlier this week. we will run down that morning commute for you when we come back. back. it's a foggy commute. high humidity. temperatures are mild near 60. that's going to change over the next few days. plus, heavier rain. more on that coming up. he is trying to con people into giving them their vote just like he conned these people into giving them their money. >> donald trump, he was often the target in last night's republican presidential debate. and time is running out for the other candidates to catch up with the frontrunner donald trump. >> as you just heard, they are pulling out all the stops in an effort to derail his campaign. ktvu's brian flores joins us with whether last night's debate did that. they seemed to all attack each other. >> i would agree with that. really if it affected donald trump, that remains unclear. what is for certain is the republican establishment is hoping this trump train, if you will, gets off the tracks even bringing in former candidates to do that. running out of time to catch donald trump. you will recall that earlier yesterday 2012 republican candidate mitt romney launched a police ring and personal attack on trump calling him a, quote, phony and fraud. trump responded to romney saying he should have beat president obama easily and it was an am bare as. . as for the debate cruz and rubio seemed to double-team their attacks on trump. >> for 40 years donald has been part of the corruption in washington that you're angry about. > [ applause ] >> and you're not gonna stop the corruption in washington by supporting someone who has supported liberal democrats. >> as a businessman, i owed that to my company, to my family, to my workers, to everybody to get along. part of the problem we have in washington, it's total gridlock. nobody gets along. we need people to get along. >> as for john kasich, he decided not to bite and take down trump. instead, he focused on how his experience as ohio's governor will help lead the country if elects as as the party's nominee. i heard from several team that told him he was the only adult amongst the candidates. the focus turns to march 15. john kasich needs to win his home state of ohio and marco rubio needs to win his home state of florida. back to you. >> brian flores in our newsroom. thank you. meantime, on sunday democrats hillary clinton and bernie sanders, they will debate each other in flint, michigan. they are putting the global economy at the center of their pitch to democrats. hillary clinton will make a policy speech today in detroit about removing economic barriers for families, giving her a chance to respond to senator bernie sanders, who accused her of supporting trade deals that have been a disaster for workers. the democrats focus on manufacturing jobs and trade policy. that's going to be the back crop for the michigan primary on march 8. a week later in ohio, illinois, and missouri. it is 7:16. want to check with sal for a look at track. to remind people, it is friday, sal, traffic jam. >> yeah. >> our theme is rain, right? >> as a matter of fact, the traffic is actually doing okay because it's not raining. >> that's true. >> right. but this afternoon we are going to get some rain that's probably going to be an issue. let's take a look at what we have now. the traffic is going to be a little bit slow in some areas as you drive through. the traffic is looking okay on 280. in fact, it does look lighter than usual getting up to highway 17. also, this morning we're looking at the nimitz freeway in the east bay. normally, we look at this and we see a lot of red. there is not a lot. there is a little bit. northbound 880 near san leandro. 580 looks good through oakland hills and over to the lakeshore area and to the bay bridge toll plaza. 7:17 let's go to steve. thank you. we have a lot of fog around. very foggy. kind of mild muggy conditions. humidity is just about 90 to 100% for some. drizzle all over the place. i mean, i could be here for ten minutes talking about the reports of drizzle we have had. light rain maybe for a few. it looks like a foggy drizzly morning here. rain beginning to pick up and it will the heavier rain is saturday night. strong system. i don't usually say storm because most systems aren't. saturday night's is in that category. heavy rain developing. flood advisory. if it goes too fast, some of these may not develop. again, there will probably be small stream flood advisories. no doubt gusts to 50-mile-per-hour. at 5,000 feet, we haven't had much moisture there. in you get the forcing of the jet stream to take this parcel of very moist air, well above average here, cool it, condense it, lift it, that's when the santa cruz mountains, marin county and the santa cruz mountains we are just now starting to see some students show up here at the school, college campus here in pittsburg. the assault alleged to have happened in the college complex building h is level 3. we heard that the assault happened on level 2. here's what we learned so far. we received a copy of an e-mail that was sent out which the college after midnight about a sexual battery. after 9:00 campus police received report of a sexual battery that took place in a women's restroom on the second floor of the main college complex. there are not a lot of details about what exactly took place, but there is a description of the suspect in this case. police are looking for a white man in his mid 30s, six feet tall with blue eyes and a medium build. the witness tells police he was wearing a black hoodie, a black bandanna over his mouth and nose and black leather gloves. now, we are hearing that the college administration should be arriving at about 7:30, which is right about now. so we're hoping to learn a little bit more about this. we can show you this is the college complex building right here. as we walk over here, you can see that this is actually the student services building. so you can get a sense of what the college campus is like here and all of this unfolding very close to the student services building at 9:00 last night. so certainly everyone here at the college in pittsburg on edge about this assault that happened just last night. >> christien kafton in pittsburg. thank you. time is now 7:34. we have new information about the east bay nanny accused of abusing a toddler. police say 20-year-old mariah gonzalez was caught on a surveillance camera allegedly using her hands to smother the crying 13-month-old boy she was caring for in livermore. the family hid that camera in the child's room. prosecutors say the camera recorded the child crying and squirming before suddenly going limp. the child is now okay. gonzalez is free on bail, but she's due to appear in court later today. well, people around the bay area are looking towards the sky today and tomorrow for rain, even thunder and lightning we're hearing. ktvu fox 2's allie rasmus in pacifica where a lot of people are concerned about the rain as well. >> reporter: yeah, we have heard about some residents here planning on not just sandbagging, but one man said his neighbors are going to be boarding up windows ahead of this weekend's storm. it's always an impressive and i think a beautiful sight to watch the waves crash against the pier here in pacifica. looks like the seas are a little rough this morning. this saturday they are expecting a higher than usual tide. that combined with the storm expected on saturday into sunday could make things difficult for residents who live on the water. as you heard steve paulson mention this morning, the big rain's supposed to hit over the weekend with heavy winds 30 to 50 miles per hour. as much as 2 to 7 inches of rain. because of that residents are keeping a close eye on what happens along the coast. if we pan off to the right you can see erosion definitely has been a problem here this winter. it is every few winters or so. last time it was a major problem was in 2010. but it's become an issue again at the end of the promenade here by the pier. they have shut down part of the street and the walkway because of problems with the wall being unstable at the cliff. the wall underneath wearing away because of the erosion. private apartment buildings have been threatened. in one case, the owner of one for one down because it was unsafe for residents to live there. a lot of residents had to evacuate earlier this year because of the problems with erosion and the cliff underneath it. those buildings were red tagged. and public thoroughfares have been impacted and in some cases gotten washed away. >> this winter has been different than winters past, you know? this is probably the most damage we have seen in a long time. i mean, the cliffs are eroding and even the concrete is giving way. we just had a sinkhole right here. you can see the fresh patchwork. that all gave way three days ago. >> reporter: now, there is a patched up sinkhole he was referring to. it's next to the pier entrance and the cafe here. pacifica has sandbags ready for residents to pick up. other cities including san francisco will have sandbags available for residents today and tomorrow. again, people we talked to who live out here are getting those sandbags ready and in some cases making other preparations ahead of this big storm that's supposed to come over the weekend badge to you guys. >> thank you for showing us that live. boy, pretty intense. you can see that in pacifica. no matter where you are, you can have the free ktvu weather app help you out. up to the minute forecast information. also weather updates on facebook, twitter, and instagram. time is now 7:37. new security cameras, they are helping investigators identify the people involved in a big fight at the santa clara-county jail. this video shows two inmates punching each other yesterday morning before the fight escalated to include at least ten inmates in a maximum security wing. that triggered a lockdown at the jail. deputies broke it up using pepper spray. >> looks like one inmate brushed up against the other and then the fight was on with fists. you can see a lot of fist fighting going on. >> we will be able to see who was the aggressor. >> it happened the day after the sheriff installed a dozen security cameras if the jail. sheriff lori smith went to costco using her own credit card. she bought the cameras for $760. that's because the jail's new $20 million surveillance system won't be operating for two more years. well, a judge has ruled three santa clara county deputies have to stand trial for the beating death of an inmate. the preliminary hearing against jerry lubrin, matthew farris and rafael rodriguez lasted three days. they are accused of killing inmate michael tyree and assaulting another inmate last year. the medical examiner who performed the autopsy on tyree testified death was clearly a homicide. the three deputies are due back in superior court on march 14 for an arraignment. new this morning the nation's job report sending mixed signals about the u.s. economy. the labor department reported this morning the american employers added 242,000 jobs last month. that's much higher than analysts predicted. the jobless rates, the unemployment rate remains at an eight-year low. 4.9%. economists say the average hourly earnings dropped. new jobs in healthcare, retail and restaurants. analysts say a drop in wages indicates that not everyone is benefitting from the improving economy. 7:40. if you california is the largest economy in the world. while this might have a small impact, it no doubt makes a statement. >> that would allow buzzes to keep klein to provide services for same-sex couples. 7:44. the warriors, they keep chasing history. they beat oklahoma city last night 121-106. their 44th straight home game tying a 20-year nba record. steph curry led everybody. 33 points. here's lee right here am he is playing again after sitting out tuesday's game with an injured ankle. it was a back-and-forth game until the fourth quarter. then the warriors took over. shaun livingston and marreese speights had good games off the bench. speights is not known for hitting three-pointers, but he made two last night. >> you wanted to start respecting the three ball? >> let them stay off me. >> speights showed his quarterbacking skills in the third quarter. look. he grabs a rebound. then long pass. found draymond green, who slammed it in. the warriors' next game sunday in los angeles against the lakers. then back at oracle on monday hosting the orlando magic. with the warriors heading out of town, prince will take over oracle arena for big concert there tonight. last night prince got an early look at the floor. he walked in with some sunglasses, his anderson varejao fro, his cane. he is a big fan of steph curry. curry tweeted this photo of a purple hallway. he wrote, think we're expecting somebody special tonight at oracle arena? hashtag #"purplerain." whoever runs oracle's twitter account replied back, we heard that riley liked purple. there are still tickets available for tonight's prince concert at oracle arena. >> a lot of people under a certain age might know riley curry more than prince, right? >> that's amazing how that happens. you're right. good morning, everybody. dave, pam, everyone. we are not too bad, actually. doing very well. the traffic is going to be a little bit slow still though in some areas. but it's better than it normally is. this is a look at the commute on the san mateo bridge. it was stopped just a little moment ago. now traffic seems to be recovering. whatever was on the span, it's looking okay. also looking at the commute right
