the end of the road to be the light at the end of the road. the big rig noticed and was not able to slow in time. reporter: the accident happened around 4:45 this morning on isabel avenue in between vineyard avenue. the driver of a big rig, which police say was delivering bottled water, crashed into the bag of a compact car and started a chain reaction. the original officers were kind of seeing who was injured and what originally happen and who was there so we could account for everybody. at that point, they made the decision to get people trans transported and officers went with the truck driver and the other okay pants out to the hospital occupants out to the hospital. reporter: according to livermore police it appears the big rig driver didn t see the traffic building from a stoplight. it s a high commute road. i don t know at this point whether speeding was a factor or inattention. reporter: the identity of the person killed has yet to be released r ....

reporter: good afternoon to you. well, the captain, the police captain who held a police conference said he s a close, personal friend of sergeant scott lunger, the officer who was shot and skilled this morning and killed. he said the department is devastated but thankful for the support they ve received from others. this is a very devastating and dark day for the community of hayward, the hayward police department, the family of the department and the men and women of law enforcement. reporter: this all happened before 3:15 this morning. sergeant lunger and another officer stopped the driver of a white pickup truck near myrtle and lion street. the report was that the truck was morning erratically. now, when sergeant lunger approached the truck, that s when the driver allegedly shot him without warning. the other officer with sergeant lunger fired back and that s when the driver sped away. he was rushed to eden medical center in castro valley where he died as a ....
