More Concerns About Lack of Available Ambulance Service Discussed by 911 Committee Published on December 22 2020 7:07 pm Last Updated on December 22 2020 7:08 pm Written by Greg Sapp Concerns over lack of available ambulance service have been heard periodically by the Effingham County Board s Ambulance Oversight Committee. Tuesday night, though, the concerns were shared with the County 911 Board s Emergency Service Agencies Committee, and they got an earful. The meeting began with statements from County 911 System Administrator Tina Daniels and City Telecommunications Supervisor Billie Bales. Daniels and Bales said there have been an increased number of Status Zero cases. Those are situations where Abbott EMS, the ambulance service that contracts with the Effingham County Board, doesn t have an ambulance rig available in the county. Abbott has a mutual aid agreement with Jasper County Ambulance Service to back them up.

Cris Ingram from the Cumberland County Health Department was present to thank school officials for the work done to maintain safety and continue education. It was decided that if a student wants to return to in-person instruction, they may do so on January 5, the start of the third quarter. Cumberland Superintendent Todd Butler plans to send a mass text to all members of the district about plans to continue instructional days on Monday through Thursday, with Fridays remaining for remote learning.

Beecher City Village Clerk Terri Doty said it s all incumbents for their election. Rita Felty is the only person to file for Village Board President, and the three village trustees.Larry Doug Ray, Jason Wells and Denise Childress.are the only three to file. There are no new candidates on the ballot. Dieterich Village Clerk Brittny Gipson said incumbent Brad Hardiek was the only person to file for Village Board President. Two of the incumbents.Bill Lane and Pam Hartke.are the only people to file for village trusteee. There are three seats to fill for trustee.

Arrest in Local Home Invasion Incident Published on December 23 2020 2:04 pm Last Updated on December 23 2020 2:04 pm Written by Greg Sapp An arrest has been made in a local home invasion that occurred Tuesday night. Effingham City Police report 31-year-old Dylan Hampton of Louisville was arrested at the scene of the incident. Police report officers responded at 7:02pm to an apartment complex in the 100 block of Hendelmeyer Avenue regarding the home invasion. Officers determined that a man had entered the garage while the resident was at home. The homeowner confronted the suspect and sustained minor injuries because of the confrontation. The resident fled the residence to phone 911. Officers entered the residence and detained Hampton.
