While the wait to return to action for Twin Cedars basketball continues, their stud underclassmen are poised to lead the way for a couple hungry squads when that time comes.
Junior Brooke Roby leads the girls with 111 points in 10 games played, with the next closest having scored just 65. Not only that, but she leads the Sabers in all five major statistical categories, with the exception of rebounds. She actually has to share that crown with sophomore Kisha Reed as both sit deadlocked at 52 apiece.
Junior Devin Arkema has 92 points through all seven of Twin Cedars’ contests. Beneath him is a two way tie for second with 69 points each. Arkema also leads the team in steals and blocks, being the only Saber receiving credit at all in the latter category.
The Twin Cedars basketball teams will be on hold for another week before returning to the hardwood following a player’s positive COVID-19 test, but that’s not going to be an excuse for when that time comes.
Boys Head Coach Blake McWilliams says that he definitely feels for his players, but that might be extra motivation for the time they finally get back to game action.
“I kinda feel bad for the boys. They were really looking forward to that second half of the season. We’ll still get to play some games. I think so. We just have to put it on hold for a little bit.”
After having several games postponed or canceled following a positive COVID-19 case in their basketball program, Twin Cedars is thankful to have been able to make up all the events with the exception of one boys varsity game.
Girls’ Head Coach and Activities Director Trent Verwers has a great deal of gratitude for the other ADs for working with the Sabers to have what will wind up being a near full schedule to finish out the year.
“I’ve been on the phone with other coaches and ADs on this, trying to find games to make up and thank goodness the other ADs were really good to work with. We were able to make every game up that we could. We’re not losing any games and we’re just looking to go from there.”
