The girls will be going into the game with a 1-2 record, looking to improve their offensive production, as they have struggled to put up points through their first three games. The Saints need to be on the lookout for Murray’s press break all night.
The Saints will be adding new sets to their offense, as they look to be more multi-dimensional in terms of scoring. The girls split two matchups with Murray last winter, winning 38-22 on January 6, 2020.
As for the boys, they are still looking for win number one on the season, with losses to Pleasantville and Ankeny Christian thus far. The Saints need to play all four quarters in order to come out on top, especially against a consistent winning program like the Mustangs.
During her freshman year at Twin Cedars, Hoch led the Bluegrass Conference in rebounding. This winter, she is currently the Saints’ top scorer and rebounder, averaging 14 points and 9.3 rebounds over three games. She had a 24-point, 19-rebound performance in the Melcher-Dallas’ win at Ankeny Christian. Coach Kelsey Goff tells KNIA Sports that she is very impressed with how Hoch stepped up so far this season.
Goff also says that having her as another scoring option is great since conference opponents know how much of a threat Kynser Reed can score down low.
Melcher-Dallas’ first game back from break is Monday when they travel to take on Murray at 6:00 PM.
Their first matchup will be Monday when they go on the road to take on Conference Powerhouse Murray, who is currently 5-2 on the season and 4-1 in Bluegrass Conference play. Their only loss was to Ankeny Christian.
The Saints’ second matchup will be their only home game of the week, a conference showdown with Seymour next Tuesday. The Warriors have lost four of their last five games, including three to conference foes Murray, Mormon Trail, and Moravia.
The final matchup of the week for Melcher-Dallas will be next Friday at Orient-Macksburg, who is currently on a four-game losing streak. All of Orient-Macksburg’s losses are by 29 points or more and are currently winless in conference play.
The Twin Cedars Basketball Squads are off to a slow start in Bluegrass Conference play this season. The Saber girls are 2-2 in conference play and 4-6 overall. Coach Trent Verwers tells KRLS Sports the conference record should be a little better, but he says that is a good start. Murray has already jumped out to a 5-0 conference start and led the girls race at the break. The boys are 1-3 to start BGC play, good enough for 8th place currently. Mormon Trail and Ankeny Christian lead the boys conference with respective 4-0 records.
The Saints currently sit at 1-2 on the season, with their only win coming against Ankeny Christian, which was the last game they played before they shut down due to a COVID-19 outbreak at the high school. Coach Kelsey Goff tells KNIA Sports that she expects there to be some rust in the return, but remains confident that the season can turn around.
Melcher-Dallas returns to action on January 4th when they travel to Murray high school for a Bluegrass Conference matchup against the Mustangs. The game will tip off at 6:00 PM.
