Melcher-Dallas’ girls’ basketball team ended a tumultuous season with a first-round playoff exit at Martensdale-St. Mary’s Thursday night as the Saints lost, 60-42; the boys will be back in action for their final game of the regular season as they travel to Sigourney.   The Saints’ girls could not run with the Blue Devils throughout the game, as they were outpaced and outshot the whole night. Kynser Reed led the way in scoring with 11 points. Grace Overgaard had nine points and the Enfield twins, Kacey and Riley each had eight. This was the first time Overgaard, the Enfield twins, and Haley Godfrey stepped on the court in two weeks as they were out due to COVID-19 contact tracing in the Bluegrass Conference Tournament.

Melcher-Dallas Final Doubleheader Before Tournament a Tough Matchup at Moravia | KNIA KRLS Radio

The Saints’ girls, after getting off to a rough start, have won five of their last six games, including a thriller against Mormon Trail Tuesday. Melcher-Dallas will look to get another win before they begin tournament play. Coach Kelsey Goff tells KNIA Sports that her team needs to continue to rebound effectively to get the win.   “Continuing to rebound. I know they have a couple of post players that are aggressive on the boards. They could kind of push us around. Just not letting them not do that to us and continuing to rebound like we have been doing all season. It has been phenomenal watching Kynser Reed, Grace Overgaard, Hailey Hoch, even Riley Enfield, down there battling for those boards, defensive and offensive. Just continuing to do that.”
