Local ADs Thankful For The Spring Season To Happen

As spring sports starts, many area Athletic Directors are noticing the athletes at their schools are grateful for the chance to participate in their sport this spring. Twin Cedars Athletic Director Trent Verwers tells KNIA/KRLS Sports while track and field are not many athletes favorite sports to participate in, he sees how excited they are to be outside this spring. Verwers: “The kids now more than ever are grateful for the season coming up. Most kids don’t like to run but they’re out there, and we’ve had a couple of meets this season, and if they can continue to follow everything and be safe, we’ll have a summer season.”

Rocky Start To Twin Cedars Season Made For A Better Finish

The first part of the Twin Cedars Girls basketball season did not go as smooth as they wanted it to go. An early season quarantine due to COVID-19 reduced the team to just 3-4 players during practice and early season losses had the Sabers stumbling out of the gates with a 1-2 record. Coach Trent Verwers tells KNIA/KRLS Sports, the girls seem to gain a lot of confidence and realized they were able to play well in a victory over Valley Lutheran December 3rd. Verwers: “Things were not really working that great. I think that Valley Lutheran game we really saw a lot of improvement in that game and the score showed in that.”

Much More Work Must Be Put In For Twin Cedars Girls To Reach Their Goals

For the Twin Cedars Girls Basketball Squad to win the Bluegrass Conference title next season, Coach Trent Verwers says they need to put in the work. He tells KNIA/KRLS Sports while most of the girls will be playing softball, with several lofty goals this summer, a little work with the basketball over the summer months will go a long way in the winter. Verwers: “That doesn’t mean go in 2 hours every day in the summer, but just 30 minutes three times a week would mae a big difference, and that might be the difference we need to be a championship school.”
