The Twin Cedars Girls Track and Field Squad has several athletes who could make a challenge for the state meet this season, and in the 4×800 team’s case is getting close to a school record. Coach Cam Parker tells KNIA/KRLS Sports with a strong performance and each girl shaving off a little bit of time that school record could be broken.
Parker:
“4×8 teams want to give them a shout out, they’ve been trimming time and could get the school record before it’s all said and done and may a trip to the state meet later on.”
The team of Cheyenne Bruns Kisha Reed, Brooke Roby and Rylee Dunkin came in third place at PCM on Tuesday in a time of 11:1
The first part of the Twin Cedars Girls basketball season did not go as smooth as they wanted it to go. An early season quarantine due to COVID-19 reduced the team to just 3-4 players during practice and early season losses had the Sabers stumbling out of the gates with a 1-2 record. Coach Trent Verwers tells KNIA/KRLS Sports, the girls seem to gain a lot of confidence and realized they were able to play well in a victory over Valley Lutheran December 3rd.
Verwers:
“Things were not really working that great. I think that Valley Lutheran game we really saw a lot of improvement in that game and the score showed in that.”
The Bluegrass Conference has released its all-conference selections and the two Marion County schools were represented. Twin Cedars has announced that two players from the boys basketball squad have made all-Bluegrass Conference this season. Earning 2nd team was Devin Arkema. Arkema was the Sabers’ leading scorer at 15.7 points per game, had a nearly 70% free throw average, pulled down 83 rebounds and led the team in steals with 24. Earning honorable mention was Kade Dunkin. He averaged 10.9 points per contest and came up with 22 steals. The Sabers finished with a record of 7-10 and finished 9th in the Bluegrass Conference. Three Twin Cedars Girls Basketball Players earned either 1st, 2nd or honorable mention all-Bluegrass Conference this season. Earning 1st team honors was Brooke Roby. She was an unanimous pick averaging 12.7 points per game, she was also the team’s second leading rebounder at 125 this season and was tops on the team with 58 steals and 25 blocked shots.
