Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal visited a flood relief camp in north Delhi and assured residents that the government will provide ad-hoc relief to those who have lost important documents.
“Since the flow of water is very high, it is difficult to fix breakage. Work, however, is underway. We hope to fix it by tomorrow evening,” said Anil Kumar, Chief Engineer, Irrigation and Water Resources Department, Government of Uttar Pradesh.
Delhi was hit by unexpected floods when waters from the Yamuna river reached peak flow rates of 3.5 lakh cusecs on July 11. Heavy monsoon rains in the river s catchment areas in Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand contributed to the rise. The Hathnikund barrage in Haryana s Yamunanagar, 180 km from Delhi, controls the flow of Yamuna towards Delhi.
Delhi Rains inundated the city yet again with waterlogging and traffic snarls in various parts. Heavy rainfall threw an already struggling and flooded city out of gear.
