They say hospitals in the county are asking them to do too much and not offering enough. Ktvu james torres explains how the two sides got to this point. Nearly 4000 nurses finished their shift early this morning and immediately took to the picket lines. Its all about ensuring Patient Safety and nurse safety. Strikes happening at a total of three area hospitals run by the professional registered nurses association. They say theyve not had a contract with Santa Clara County in months. Theyre demanding improvements in staffing, keeping nurses to just one hospital and improved security to prevent workplace violence. I was punched in the face by a patient simply because they were hungry and were upset that they couldnt eat anything, but it was doctors order because they were going to go in for surgery. As you mentioned, that tsunami watch has been canceled but they still want folks to stay away from the coastline here in San Francisco for at least the next 12 hours. Right where were standing near the marina in San Francisco you see the water here, this is considered what would be a tsunami zone so folks would have to be prepared to evacuate. As we swing over to our right side, this is where you would see the homes that would have to prepare for an evacuation. Lets show you guys that tweet where the department of emergency sent out that tweet saying that the tsunami watch had been canceled but to stay away from the coastline for the next 12 hours. Police got a report of a kidnapping at that time that laundromat tonight and they found blood inside and out and unattending belongings when they arrived. They said she got snatched from the laundromat. Reporter he said San Francisco police came into his store tonight investigating a kidnapping that happened across the street. Police found blood on the floor and on the sidewalk. A womans purse and a suitcase full of belongings sat abandoned on the table. Investigators say a witness called police when he saw a man taking a woman from the laundromat. Police say the man saw a knife. Police say han looked at the security video and saw who they were looking for. She was purchasing soda and laundry detergent. She had enough money for the soda not the detergent so she wanted to use the phone. Reporter witnesses told police the man forced the woman into a car and drove off. Officers found the car about an hour and a half later. They said the woman

Investigators say the big rig driver approached traffic slowing and wasnt able to stop in time. A man in one of the cars died at the scene. The big rig driver and two other people were taken to the hospital. A deadline is looming between city of san jose and police and firefighters unions. The sides are facing a midnight deadline to reach a deal over courtordered changes to measure b, the controversial pension reform package. The unions say pension cuts brought on by measure b are driving down staff levels especially in the Police Department. What it should be is what was many, many years ago is 1,400. And its not even close. And every day that we sit here at this table and not have an agreement another cop walks out the door. The sides have been trying to work out differences for more than four months. If they dont reach a deal both can start appealing changes.
