Pandemic, everyday we suffer losses. People are losing their jobs, people are losing their grip on their Mental Health. Worst of all, people are losing family members to this disease. These months of Public Health crises and social unrest has shown us that when we come together, we can have the hard conversations and make the tough choices to do what needs to be done. Not just save lives but to address systemic racism head on and change society as we know it. I know today is about our budget and our path forward. We do as a city, as you all know, have an obligation for affirmatively fair housing. This developers have bottom lines to deliver for investors. They can be pressured to provide affordable minutes to make concessions regarding labor practices. At the end of the day it is this balance and this discussion that is at the heart of whether we are furthering fair housing or not. But i think i bring a unique view, especially at this time right now, being able to make sure we have equity in everything we do. Both internally and externally with this organization. Calendar worked at valley water for 24 years and was chief of external affairs. He might be best known in the community for his role as the president of the Silicon Valley chapter of the naacp from 2000 to 2008.
