Deputies accused of beating a former inmate who is now revealing what happened to him. Pete suratos has more. Reporter you know, i spoke with ruben, who is not calling this a victory. A year after the attack he is still shaken up. I fell asleep and got woke up by two officers beating me. Reporter ruben garcia is cautiously optimistic after the two santa clara jail deputies responsible for beating him in his jail cell back in july turned themselves in. You know, i dont think they will ever stop beatings there. Deputies are facing felony charges, up to three years in prison. The former inmate says he was shackled while being beat, after he complained about being in an Interview Room for four hours. These pictures show his jaw, permanently disfigured, and eating is a challenge. The beating happened before his fellow inmate was beaten to death by three deputies. Pete, people here really struggled to get out of the fire. Tragic to hear not everyone survived. Reporter a lot of residents on this block are shocked. They tell me that a mother lived in that home with her son. Behind me you see investigators still on the scene. We did get a chance to talk with a neighbor who called 911 and also jumped into action. Neighbors heard screams. I heard like a lady screaming for help, call 911. Reporter while others stumbled upon the bad news. I just was hoping that it really wasnt my little friend. Reporter firefighters arrived around 10 00 a. M. Seen here extingishing flames in one wed room. Heres one of the residents being taken away on a stretcher for second and third degree burns. A teenage victim was taken to a nearby hospital for minor burns. The fire did take the life of one child. I hear the mother. Reporter jeff heard those screams and called 911. Back up late this afternoon. It actually landed on its roof. A number of agencies were told responded to help and we have calls in to oakland fire. But two minors were involved here, a male and a female. But it was very difficult to get them up and out. Both survived, again, with what are considered moderate to minor injuries. One of them was air lifted out when the car went off the road here. Theres a sharp turn and a lot of bicycles but were still awaiting word on what might have caused them to go off the road. It may be that of a 1yearold leaving the bay area with her father. Last night, Kyler Jackson was found in walnut grove and today they found a young girls body in the water nea
