They have yet to determined what killed the 15yearold during football conditioning yesterday here at sunol high where he was a freshman. This morning, some of his classmates gathered for a private moment on that field where he collapsed and died. Many more wore his favorite color to school in honor of their friend who died so young and so suddenly. It doesnt even feel like hes gone. Hes still in my heart but i dont even know what to say. I couldnt even sleep last night. Reporter thats abraham, one of gee van knees close friends. It was still very hot yesterday, 83 degrees out. Abraham says they were in the middle of Running Drills when his friend collapsed. It was just too hot and i guess he didnt drink enough water and he just passed out right in front of us. It looked like he tripped but wouldnt get back up. He was just a very nice person. He was a good person to hang out with. He was never negative. He was always positive. Abraham and the district also says the staff immediately called 911 and began to attend to giovanni but he was declared dead a short time later at highland hospital. All three are expected to survive and the shooting is under investigation. New video of a protest at city hall that did tens and thousands of dollars in damage. The hope is that people will recognize those doing that damage. Demonstrators trashed a metal detector and wrecked decorative iron work. Toxic chemicals have been removed from foam but the government is concerned about decades of past use. The military is now testing for contamination in drinking water. That has prompted us to ask where are the toxins ending up and what are regulators doing about it . How can you forget the images, firefighters cover asiana flight 214 in foam after it crashed is the sfo in 2014. The San FranciscoFire Department keeps special rigs ready the a the airport. Specifically built for airport firefighting. Reporter at sjc, san jose firefighters keep stockpiles of foam within reach. This is one of our Storage Facilities that we have for our foam that we use. It looks like dish soap. It looks like bubble bath. But its a powerful tool to fight fire. The foam will smother and take the oxygen out of the fire and put it out. Its known as afff. The Fire Departments by environmentally friendly foam but for decades airports and military bases used afff that contained toxic forms of chemicals known as pfcs. Its extraordinarily long lived. Reporter bill walker from the environmental working group, a nonprofit investigating pfcs. It almost never breaks down. Reporter key ingredients in teflon, scotch guard and other of hundreds of products. Manufacturers started phasing out toxic pfcs a decade ago but walker says weve all been exposed. Its persistence, the fact that it builds up in your blood and the fact that it was used so heavily for so long means that it could be a worldwide problem. Reporter linked to developmental delays and changes to the immune system, some are likely to be cars know general nick to humans. And now scientists are becoming increasingly interested in pfcs in water. It gets in the bay and in the drinking water. Reporter researchers recently found the chemicals in bay area wastewater. They say detection at Treatment Plants are likely related to afff usage. Last year, the military started testing groundwater. 58 are in california, including Treasure Island and moffet field and the epa required large public drink Water Systems to pest for pfcs. We found nearly 200 water autopsy supplies across the country. 28 are in california. Including in the city of pleasanton. Is the city concerned about the detection found in this well . Absolutely. Our hope and expectation is that there wont be any contaminants in it. Reporter one drinking well has tested positive for the foam. The chemical was found at low levels, just above the testing limit set by the epa. That doesnt automatically mean that its an Immediate Health impact but its something that were concerned about and find out the source for it. Reporter that doesnt necessarily mean theres a health risk for it. Reporter the ground Water Management unit in santa clara, pfcs were not found in any of the valleys drinking water. The district takes cues from the epa. We look to regulatory agencies to determine what are self levels of these contaminants. Reporter the agency doesnt regulate the chemicals in drinking water. Officials tell us the test results will help the agency decide how to move forward. Does the epas data give the full extent of potential contamination here . No, absolutely not. Were very concerned that the Testing Program was not rigorous enough when in fact if they looked hard, they would find more contamination. Reporter now, the epa will issue a new advisory and that could happen by tomorrow. We got a city from pleasanton and officials retested the water and yesterday they got the results and this time they came back clean. Well be there tomorrow and then it dips below average for friday and into the weekend as we get much stronger onshore flow, more cloud cover and also a chance of rain. So the forecast shows that well have a westerly breeze coming in but only at 5 to 10 miles an hour. And then later on tonight, it calms down and picks up tomorrow. So once we get some stronger winds moving in, we will get some cooler air being transported farther inland and were looking at some wild temperature swings over the next couple of days and a wide range of temperatures from the coast to inland area. So looking at the south bay today, 88 degrees. 74 degrees tomorrow and more clouds in the mix and then on friday, 68 degrees. Well all be in the 60s on friday. San francisco, only up to 62 degrees. Also a slight chance of rain in San Francisco and as the sharks head back home tomorrow, it will be much more comfortable. I know some of the pregame events happened right around the s. A. T.
