KUALA LUMPUR: MCA’s Crisis Relief Squad (CRSM) is calling for the public to donate essential items such as mattresses, pillows and electronic appliances to flood victims who have lost such items to the disaster.
CRSM National chief Datuk Natalie Lim Chong Ly said it managed to raise over RM200,000 for flood relief efforts through crowdfunding and mobilised 500 volunteers as the disaster worsened earlier this month.
“While our volunteers were helping to clear the disaster-stricken areas, they discovered many personal belongings and electrical items of the victims were destroyed by the flood.
“It was a scene of devastation, and it tore my heart to witness the victims struggle with the double whammy of the Covid-19 pandemic and flash floods, ” she said in a statement on Friday (Jan 22).

PETALING JAYA: Over 500 volunteers under MCA s Crisis Relief Squad (CRSM) have been mobilised to help flood victims in the country, says its chief Datuk Natalie Lim Chong Ly. The CRSM has been fully engaged in disaster relief since non-stop rainfall deluged areas. More than 500 volunteers have been mobilised across the country and supplies in excess of RM200,000 have been handed to provide assistance to disaster-hit areas, Lim said in a statement on Thursday (Jan 14).
Besides distributing dry foodstuffs, anti-Covid-19 pandemic supplies and others, she said the volunteers also assisted in relocation efforts including clean-up works and post-disaster reconstruction.

MCA Youth chief Datuk Nicole Wong said the group aims to raise RM50,000 through the GoCare crowdfunding donation drive in order to procure essential items for victims. Victims will be needing large amounts of material assistance so we call upon the rakyat to donate so we can send the material to those in need as soon as possible, she said.
Wong said CRSM was also actively recruiting volunteers to help with relief efforts in affected states such as Kelantan, Terengganu, Pahang and Johor.
PETALING JAYA: MCA s Crisis Relief Squad (CRSM) has set up the GoCare Job Hub website to help those who have lost their jobs. Numerous companies and businesses have published more than 100 recruitment ads on the GoCare Job Hub in hopes of helping vulnerable families get through these difficult times, said its chairman Datuk Natalie Lim Chong Ly. GoCare Job Hub has two main functions - the I Need Job function which enables job-seekers to examine and apply for suitable vacancies, and the I Need Worker function that allows businesses to advertise their recruitment drives, she added.
She also said to step up the fight against the third wave of the Covid-19 pandemic, the CRSM has raised more than RM6,000 to purchase medical face masks as well donating personal protective equipment (PPE) and supplies to frontliners.
