Reporter good morning, laura. Still no update on the condition of those two officers. I spoke with chp a short while ago. They did confirm the two officers are in the hospital. As you look behind me, this is a patrol car involved in the crash. You can see how hard the back of the patrol car was hit. Investigators have been on scene since midnight. Chp says the collision happened sometime after 11 30 a. M. Last night. This is 880 southbound near winton avenue across from the mall in hayward. Chp says two officers were injured. What weve learned, as you reported, the man killed in last nights accident was this man. As you mentioned he just joined the chp force one year and four months ago. He was just 33 years old. He grew up in tracy. He leaves behind a wife and three young children. His partner, jonathan well as kwez the officers were parked on the shoulder of southbound 880 in hayward. They were looking for impaired drivers as part of chps maximum enforcement period and thats when they were hit behind by a driver who slammed into the back of their patrol car.
