The Blair Oaks defense has risen to the occasion the past two times it has played the Lutheran North Crusaders. In the Class 3 state quarterfinals in 2020, the Falcons held the Crusader offense out of the end zone for the first time since Sept. 5, 2009, using a dominant second-half performance to win 44-9. Last season, Blair Oaks handed Lutheran North a 35-0 loss, its first shutout defeat since that same 2009 game against Westminster Christian.
When you discuss Missouri small-school high school football from the past two decades, two programs that have to be in that discussion are the Blair Oaks Falcons and the Lamar Tigers. So it’s no surprise to see them facing each other for the Class 2 state championship. Kickoff is at 3 p.m. at Faurot Field in Columbia.
The Blair Oaks Falcons are pretty good at running with the football, amassing more than 2,000 yards rushing through the first seven games of the season. They’re about to face a team than has rushed for a few more yards. The Hallsville Indians bring in an average of 303.6 yards rushing per game into tonight’s Tri-County Conference matchup against Blair Oaks.
The Russellville Indians are heading north today. Way north. Russellville is heading to Memphis, about 15 miles south of the Iowa border, to take on the Scotland County Tigers. This will be the last of a three-game road swing for the Indians, who won 35-14 at Carrollton last Friday after beating Diamond 34-22 in Week 2.
The scary part? The Battle Spartans are averaging 35 points and 400 yards of total offense through two games this season. The puzzling part? The Spartans are 0-2. “They have a potent offense,” Helias coach Chris Hentges said as the Crusaders (2-0) prepare to host Battle tonight in Central Missouri Activities Conference action at Ray Hentges Stadium.
