For the first time all season, the Blair Oaks Falcons were trailing at halftime. But just like every game this season, the Falcons were leading as the final seconds ticked on the game clock. Blair Oaks used a strong start on both side of the football after halftime to rally for a 32-27 victory against the Lamar Tigers in the Class 2 state championship game at Faurot Field.
The Blair Oaks defense felt it had something to prove coming into the 2022 season. Last year, the Falcons gave up 371 points, the most in a single season since the program began in 1976, and allowed an average of 30.9 points per game. Blair Oaks showed week after week this season it had grown into a better defense, both through maturity and on-the-field play. But its turnaround wouldn’t be complete without one last defensive stop Friday night. And the Falcons got it.
When you discuss Missouri small-school high school football from the past two decades, two programs that have to be in that discussion are the Blair Oaks Falcons and the Lamar Tigers. So it’s no surprise to see them facing each other for the Class 2 state championship. Kickoff is at 3 p.m. at Faurot Field in Columbia.
