Fourteen Tigers Named to All-ACC Academic Team

CLEMSON, S.C. – Following their success in the classroom, 14 Tigers have been named to the All-ACC Academic Team for women’s soccer as announced by the conference office on Wednesday.  With 14 honorees, this marks the second-highest amount in program history. Last season, Clemson set a new program-record with 15.  Minimum academic requirements for selection to the All-ACC Academic Team are a 3.0-grade point average for the previous semester and a 3.0 cumulative average during one’s academic career. The athletic requirement for student-athletes is to have played in at least 50 percent of competition. Megan Bornkamp, Hal Hershfelt and Caroline Conti all picked up their fourth All-ACC Academic honor as Clemson was the only school in the conference to have three athletes earn the honor for the fourth time in their career. CLEMSON, S.C. – Behind Mackenzie Duff’s goal just two minutes into the game and Halle Mackiewicz’s record-breaking shutout, the No. 3 seed Clemson Tigers downed the No. 6 seed Wake Forest at Historic Riggs Field in the first round of the ACC Tournament. With the win, the Tigers advance to the ACC Semifinals, held in Cary, N.C., and will take on No. 2 seed Notre Dame on Thursday. “I thought our concentration was very good across the whole game but especially in the second half. I thought our overall team defending was solid, look, we got another shutout. We played a good team tonight, we always have close games with Wake Forest and I think games like this help you when you are in a tournament or in the NCAA’s because you get tested in different ways. This was a good challenge for our group and I thought we passed it really well,” Head Coach Eddie Radwanksi said. Mackiewicz earned her 13th shutout of the year, breaking the 24-year-old record of 12 set by Katie Carson in 1999.

Makenna Morris Named ACC Defensive Player of the Week

CLEMSON, S.C. – Makenna Morris led the Tigers to a top-25 road win and shutout of No. 23 Duke to earn ACC Defensive Player of the Week honors, the conference office announced on Tuesday.The honor marks the first of Morris’s career and third ACC Defensive Player of the Week selection for the Tigers in 2023 (Halle Mackewicz, Mackenzie Duff). Morris’s older sister Maliah Morris was twice named ACC Player of the Week in her career as a Tiger (2019, 2020).Morris scored the Tigers’ lone goal in Durham on Friday night, propelling Clemson to a 1-0 win over the Blue Devils. The goal marked Morris’ seventh of the season and 16th of her Clemson career as the defender officially passed the 50 career points mark.The Germantown, Md., native leads the team in goals this season and is tied for second on the club in assists.Clemson returns to the pitch on Thursday, October 19, hosting Louisville. Kickoff is set for 7:00 p.m. on ACCNX.
