Good morning class and welcome back to history 3290, modern American Military history. Today, we are going to continue our conversation about the second world war. And, specifically we will look at an aspect of the war through what we call the lens of industrial mobilization. And, industrial mobilization is often understood as the key to allied victories in this ward. It is often said that the allies win because they out produce the axis powers. Im sure many of us have heard this before and perhaps encountered it or read it. But, one of the problems with that line of reasoning is that if it is simply an amount of stuff that produces victory. But at the beginning of this war the axis powers possessed more. So that cannot absolutely establish ultimately the trajectory of allied victory. Because, the allies for a long time are deficient in that quantity of stuff. The other aspect of the material argument, if you will that the allies out reduced and overstated and under simplified. I would like to say a couple words about the revolution and the history of intelligence. This is one subject that is vastly underrepresented in historical literature. Most of us went through school and learned about the revolution. Even at the college level, we do not delve into the importance of intelligence during the american revolution. This is quite problematic. If you look at the advantages of the british over the americans, the british at almost every advantage. They had a modern professional army that had been battle colonies didas the colon not. The americans had a small Continental Army that could not really be counted on. The british of the greatest navy in the world. The americans did not have a navy to speak of. We have privateers. Pirates, essentially, that we gave the ability to steal and pillage for their pay. Most americans did not actually support independence. Less than half of continental americans support independence. Thousands fought for the british. And many of

Lieutenant James Robinson was largely for godness is family new that he had a medal. But this is one of those Amazing Stories that that had been just kind of forgotten over time in the enormity of the war. And so our researchers had uncovered this i mean, you know, and i just want to kind of highlight it lieutenant James Robinson was a ford observer attached to an empty company in the 60 Third Infantry Division in the european theater of operations. On april 6 1945 during a fierce battle in southern germany lieutenant robinson rallied the troops. Led the counter attack with a 78 pound field radio on its back. So thats the thing in the in the program. Its Pretty Amazing and took command of the remnants of the empty company. The Company Commander had been killed the platoon leader was wounded. And he shouted the words that american soldiers continued to echo on battlefields today. Lets go. The company down to 19 soldiers were ordered to continue the attack against superior numbers. So ss
