Weve seen crime scene investigators around this site and spotted some bullet holes as youll see in this guard shack. Tonight the feds say they are indeed beefing up security. Now, those two officers were at oaklands Federal Building providing security during last nights protest. Homeland Security Officials say just before 10 00, someone pulled up in a vehicle and opened fire on those two federal protective Service Officers. One of them died. The other is in critical condition. It comes as the department of Homeland Security says there have been threats leveled across the country. An assassin cowardly shot two federal Service Officers as they stood watch. That wont be tolerated and it wont succeed anywher
Economists expect most jobless numbers will show that another 2 1 2 million americans filed for Unemployment Benefits last week. That would be a slight improvement from the prior week. The nation has seen about 33 million new unemployment claims in just the past seven weeks. Here in california, the state Employment Development department has issued a new set of guidelines as a result of the coronavirus pandemic. The new rules would allow some people to actually turn down job offers and instead continue to collect Unemployment Benefits. New at 6, andrea is here now to explain. Is a drastic change from what normally happens when people collect unemployment but part of the reason here is that people are supposed to be hunkering down at home to prevent the spread of covid19. Reporter he did, frank, and he did an unusual thing, he rejected the president s call for dropping Interest Rates below zero, and said he would do other things, such as make loans more available, but he really made a strong point, urging the president and congress to take action. A warning, wednesday from federal chair, Jerome Powell, that we will see a recession. About 40 of those taking less than 40,000 a year have lost a job in march. Reporter powell warned of low productivity, stagnant incomes and bankruptcy. He says the fed will increase lending, but congress and the white house also need to put money into peoples hands. Additional fiscal support could be costly, but worth it if it helps avoid longterm damage and leaves us with a stronger recovery. This trade off is 14 our elected representatives.
