And the only thing we have right now to do that is all of us wearing masks. Especially when we go to the Grocery Stores and other businesses. But more importantly, just out and about whenever we need each other. It is all we have to do to protect each other. The new rule does not apply to people engage in exercise, like walking, running, biking or hiking. Deborah . Well, frank, four firefighters to an engine usually. They were masks, but it is impossible to stay six feet apart. Now add a big fire in the need to evacuate people. During rescues from recent wildfires, no one worried about spreading germs. Where you at . Reporter or whether they would catch something at the evacuation center. I still think we have a lot of unknowns. What level is the pandemic going to be at one fire season hits . Reporter Fire Agencies are thinking about covid, because this work doesnt lend itself to social distance. On the lines or in the base camps where big fires bring thousands of crews all betting down in the same place. Eating in the same location, they are showering and getting resources and rest in one location. So, this is a real challenge for us. Reporter we need all healthy and ready to go to these wildfires. Cal fires chief stood with governor newson to talk about how california is adding new hams, new helicopters, new engines, and a new determination to keep fires from spreading and covid too. If we keep fires small, at the beginning, with these extra resources that we are going to have, then we will protect the public and our firefighters. You have got to walk and chew gum at the same time. To fight fire and disease simultaneously, evacuees might be put in hotels, or if that doesnt work, putting in partitions and segregating appropriately, putting in air cleaners, and air purifiers in place. Evacuation centers will be smaller, and probably further away. Where we could have evacuated somebody to a School Gymnasium in the past, in one of our community centers. It will require three or four School Gymnasiums, or two school centers. And that emergency go back needs a few additions. The need for carrying facial coverings, hand sanitizers, things went typically think to bring with you, but something you definitely want to add to your kid. Reporter fire stations are already taking percussion, limiting access, rotating crews, and checking for symptoms. But this environment is easier to control, then the field. And fire, they know. Coronavirus, they dont. This is a power play look. We are used to disasters, we are not used to pandemic. I spoke with a uc berkeley professor and director of institute of research on labor and employment. He told me the current shelter place orders have left some businesses, such as those in the Restaurant Industry with no jobs to offer. If you are told you are not allowed to leave the house to do work, that doesnt make sense. Reporter another potential issue here, some people are now making more in there and employment payout than they did on their job. And even though the rules are relaxed at the moment, those collecting benefits must still make a reasonable effort to find employment. But in the current covid19 environment, those types of jobs will be slow to materialize. For now we need there to be a really Strong Demand to make sure they are just desperate for workers. Reporter back in upland browns kitchen, tonya brown believes workers will eventually return, but the only question now is when, in the meantime though, she is on the front.
