LITTLE litter pickers are following in the footsteps of famous children s fictional TV characters. Inspired by Uncle Bulgaria and his friends who tidy up after humans on Wimbledon Common, Little Wombles of Winsford have vowed to pick up rubbish dumped on the ground. The idea is the brainchild of Steve Edwards who launched Winsford Litter Project a year ago to restore pride in the town. Our group is going from strength to strength, said Steve, who lives near The Flashes. We now have more than 460 members. So many kids go out litter picking with their parents, I thought it would be good for them to have t heir own group.

AN overgrown woodland has been turned into an oasis of tranquility for the local community. Fowles Funeral Services have developed a garden of reflection at the back of their town centre premises in Delamere Street. New trees, bushes, plants and bulbs have been planted and feeding sites set up for animals. A handmade bench created for people to remember loved ones has also been placed in the new nature reserve. The seat had been removed from the water s edge at Winsford Flashes after being trashed for the second time in a month. Vandals had wrenched six inch bolts out of the ground and tossed aside.
The salt stacks at Winsford Town Park will turn red, white and blue. Plans are also underway to illuminate the Brunner Guildhall. The Brunner Guildhall will be lit up in Union Jack colours to honour Captain Sir Tom Moore
