Fairfield police have released the details of a Monday morning accident at the intersection of West Delaware Street and Airport Road. 81-year-old Harry Mayfield was reportedly southbound in a vehicle crossing West Delaware, and 69-year-old Earl Downen was westbound on the south side of West Delaware in a motorized wheelchair. Police say the vehicle made contact with the chair and knocked Downen to the ground. EMS transported him to Fairfield Memorial Hospital for treatment, and, after an investigation, police determined no citations would be issued. 41-year-old Fairfield resident Jennifer K. Arnold was sentenced in Wayne County Circuit Court yesterday. She pleaded guilty to a Class 3 felony count of possession of less than five grams of methamphetamine. Arnold was sentenced to 24 months special section probation and time served. A separate case was dismissed per her plea, and she was ordered to pay fines, court costs, and restitution. Masking in school was again a sticking point for some parents at the Fairfield District 112 Board of Education meeting last night. Three parents spoke in favor of opposing the governor's mask mandate, with some saying due process has not been followed for some students placed on quarantine and into remote learning. No action on the matter was taken. The Edwards County Board of Education met last night. Superintendent David Cowger presented the newly proposed tax levy, which called for a four percent increase. He said that does not necessarily mean tax payments will be higher, just that the levy is set at that amount. The board will vote on the matter at its meeting next month. In other action, the board heard the district has been awarded a $49,000 grant to put new furniture in the district libraries.
