49-year-old Carmi resident Brian W. Dartt was sentenced to 13 years in prison yesterday in White County Circuit Court by Judge T. Scott Webb. He entered an open plea of guilty in January to a Class 2 felony count of Aggravated DUI Causing Death; in so doing, he admitted to driving a truck on Route 1 while under the influence of methamphetamine and getting into an accident that resulted in the death of 18-year-old Norris City resident Clinton J. Richardson. The Wayne County Farm Bureau held its 100th Annual Meeting last night at the Fairfield First Christian Church. Southeastern Illinois was hit with a smattering of icy precipitation yesterday, forcing several closings and cancellations. All Wayne, Edwards, and Clay county schools are closed today due to icy road conditions. In addition, pre-schools at the Fairfield First Christian Church and Little Prairie in Albion are closed today. All First Christian Church activities are cancelled in Fairfield, as well, and the CDC and New2U are closed. Much of the listening area, including Wayne, Edwards, Wabash, and White counties, is under a winter weather advisory until 6 today. Sleet and ice accumulation was expected to peak overnight into early this morning; for the rest of the day, as temperatures rise above freezing, precipitation should transition to all rain. People should plan on slippery road conditions impacting morning or evening commutes and should slow down and use caution while traveling.
