All veterans who will be honored Saturday have been contacted by phone and by mail; anyone who has not been contacted by Saturday will be honored at a later ceremony. The Illinois Department of Public Health Friday reported 8,039 new confirmed and probable cases of coronavirus disease in Illinois, including 109 deaths since March 18. Friday the IDPH reported 1,309 new cases of Coronavirus and 14 additional deaths. Currently, IDPH is reporting a total of 3,061,224 cases, including 33,307 deaths. Since March 18, laboratories have reported 563,249 specimens for a total of 56,891,628. As of Thursday night, 470 individuals in Illinois were reported to be in the hospital with COVID-19. Of those, 64 patients were in the ICU and 33 patients were on ventilators. The preliminary seven-day statewide positivity for cases as a percent of total test from March 18-24, is 1.4%. The Mt. Erie Elementary School PTO will hold its annual Auction and Dinner fundraiser today at Willow Creek Venue. The Fairfield Public School District Board of Education met last night and unanimously voted to employ Kristina Gardner as its new Superintendent for the 2022-2023 school year, starting July 1st. Gardner will take over for Interim Superintendent Diana Zurliene at the end of this school year. Gardner is currently the North Side Principal in District 112. The Fairfield City Council will meet tonight at 6 at City Hall. The much-anticipated vote will take place on the potential business district, which would see a one-percent sales tax increase in its boundaries. If passed, the district would be in effect for 23 years, but Mayor Mike Dreith says a future council could terminate it at any time with a majority vote.
