Earlier in the day, county officials had received word that the first case of COVID-19 had been detected in Beaver County. That weekend, Allegheny County officials had begun ordering business closures and restricting gatherings, but county officials were initially having none of that.
The tone changed after word came that an Aliquippa School District employee had tested positive for the novel coronavirus. The board of commissioners, along with the head of Beaver County Emergency Services Eric Brewer, addressed the county, declared a state of emergency in the county and begged residents to take the pandemic seriously.

A Plymouth man confessed to killing his 83-year-old father inside the latter’s Pennsylvania home in an attempt to save the senior from humiliation over losing money in a scam, authorities said.
Michael Miklaucic, 57, told police he was responsible for the death of his father, John Miklaucic, of New Sewickley Township, Pennsylvania, in a 911 call Tuesday morning, New Sewickley Police Chief Ronald Leindecker told reporters.
Police responded to John Miklaucic’s home at 657 Fezell Road and found his body inside the home, according to Leindecker, who said the cause of death was strangulation. Michael Miklaucic was taken into custody without incident on the front porch.
Two found dead in Ambridge home; suspect in custody

AMBRIDGE A woman is in custody awaiting criminal charges in connection with a fatal double shooting in the borough.
Ambridge police responded around 1:30 p.m. Monday to a report of a shooting in the 900 block of Maplewood Avenue and found two people dead in a residence.
Beaver County District Attorney David Lozier said police took an adult woman into custody at the home shortly after the incident. Names of those involved will not be released until the Beaver County Coroner’s Office notifies the next of kin.
“As of this time, we are not looking at any other suspects,” Lozier said at a news conference. He expects criminal charges to be filed soon.

Bright told dispatchers she shot her children and that the gun used in the attack was unloaded on her dining room table. She later admitted shooting one of her children while they were lying in bed, according to the complaint.
