41-year-old Georgetown, Ohio, resident Brian D. Jones was killed in a single vehicle crash Monday afternoon at milepost 103 on Interstate 64 near Wayne County. According to Illinois State Police, at approximately 5:15, Jones was westbound in a construction zone when he struck a concrete bridge barrier multiple times. He left the roadway, struck a tree, and overturned. Fairfield businessman Gary Carter continues his campaign for the Republican nomination for the new Illinois House District 116. Wayne County is currently at the southern end of District 109 and is represented by Adam Niemerg; Carter says the change in maps pulling Niemerg away from the county prompted him to run. Carter says someone needs to step to the plate to fight against statewide pandemic mandates for schools and businesses and to fight for lower taxes and the removal of the state gas tax. Masking in school was again a sticking point for some parents at the Fairfield District 112 Board of Education meeting last night. Three parents spoke in favor of opposing the governor's mask mandate, with some saying due process has not been followed for some students placed on quarantine and into remote learning. No action on the matter was taken. The Edwards County Board of Education met last night. Superintendent David Cowger presented the newly proposed tax levy, which called for a four percent increase. He said that does not necessarily mean tax payments will be higher, just that the levy is set at that amount. The board will vote on the matter at its meeting next month. In other action, the board heard the district has been awarded a $49,000 grant to put new furniture in the district libraries. Fairfield Memorial Hospital plans to hold a day of complimentary meals for any veteran on November 10th in the FMH Café. Breakfast will be served from 6 to 8:30, lunch from 10 to 1:
