Headlines for Wednesday, May 19th

Illinois State Police Division of Criminal Investigation Zone 8 has released more information on a death just west of Harrisburg. 42-year-old Harrisburg resident Doyle Winston III was found dead along Illinois Route 13 on May 12, and an autopsy on the 14 th determined the manner of death to be homicide. DCI Zone 8 says the case is open and ongoing. Anyone with information should contact ISP at 382-4646, extension 235. 21-year-old Fairfield resident Craig S. Stein was sentenced in Wayne County Circuit Court yesterday. He pleaded guilty in March 2020 to a Class 3 felony count of aggravated battery, and he was sentenced yesterday to two years probation, plus time served. Several other cases and counts were dismissed per his plea, and Stein was ordered to pay $8,125 in fines, court costs, and restitution.

FCHS will hold its Senior Prom on May 8 th, with line-up at the school at 4 and Prom itself at the Willow Creek Venue at 6:30. FCHS After Prom has permission to hold After Prom at FCHS, as well, and it is selling luminaires in honor or memory of someone to light the gravel pathway up to Willow Creek as a fundraiser. They can be purchased for $5 at Carnaby Square, Black’s Fashion Flower, and Mama Bear’s Four Seasons Crafts and More. They can also be purchased by Venmo by inserting “Luminaires” on the memo line to the After Prom FCHS account.

Headlines for Tuesday, January 19th

John Reynolds has resigned from his position as Edward Jones Financial Advisor in Fairfield to move to Texas. His last day at his office at 302 West Main Street was Friday, and the company says it plans to fill the position and is actively looking for a replacement. Susan Woods will still work in the office to serve clients, and the company wished Reynolds the best in his endeavors. Fairfield police arrested 36-year-old St. Louis, Missouri, resident Doctavious L. Pegues last night on charges of aggravated assault, battery, domestic battery, and criminal trespass to a residence. Pegues was taken to the Wayne County Jail and held, pending an appearance before a judge to set bond.

Headlines for Monday, January 18th

Fairfield Memorial Hospital Chief of Staff Dr. Wesley Thompson has accepted a position with the Veteran’s Administration Hospital in Idaho and will leave Wayne County this March after 17 years of service in the area. FMH CEO Dr. Katherine Bunting-Williams said Dr. Thompson will be missed, but veterans deserve top-quality care. Dr. Wesley Thompson 32-year-old Anthony N. Alexander was arrested early Saturday morning on charges of aggravated arson, criminal damage to government-supported property, and disorderly conduct. Police reportedly found a door on fire at the Fairfield High Rise, and, after an investigation, placed Alexander under arrest. He was held in jail, pending the setting of bond.

Headlines for Tuesday, December 22nd

Illinois Eastern Community Colleges will have three full-term Board of Trustees seats to be filled in the upcoming Consolidated Election. Current Board Chairman G. Andrew Fischer will not seek re-election, and Barbara Shimer and Jan Ridgely will also see their seats expire. Shimer and Ridgely have filed petitions for the seats, as have Roger Browning, Jeff Cutchin, and Brady Waldrop. The City of Fairfield reminds people Sunrise Sanitation will run the January bulk pick-up route for city trash customers on January 8 th due to the New Year’s Holiday. Routes are normally run on the first Friday of each month. As always, they are run in the early morning hours, so people should be sure to set their items curbside the evening of January 7
