Today is the deadline for payment of the first installment of Wayne County Real Estate Taxes. Taxes can be paid today in person at the office of Wayne County Treasurer Donna Masterson between the hours 8am and 4pm. If you need to make your payment outside of business hours, you may use the drop box on the west side of the courthouse. For more information contact the Treasurer's Office at 842-5087. Taxes can also be paid at any of the following banking locations throughout the county: First Financial, Cisne Trust, Mt. Erie Banking Center, People's National Bank, and Fairfield National Bank's Fairfield and Wayne City Branches. Petitions for the Consolidated Election to be held on April 4, 2023, for the election of Mayor (two-year term), First Ward Alderman, Second Ward Alderman, Third Ward Alderman, and Fourth Ward Alderman will be available in the office of City Clerk Tina Hutchcraft beginning Tuesday, September 20. Office hours are 7:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. and 1:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m. A Mayor will be elected for a two-year term to fill the unexpired term of Mayor Dreith and one alderman from each of the City's four wards will be elected for a four-year term. 41-year-old Georgetown, Ohio, resident Brian D. Jones was killed in a single vehicle crash Monday afternoon at milepost 103 on Interstate 64 near Wayne County. According to Illinois State Police, at approximately 5:15, Jones was westbound in a construction zone when he struck a concrete bridge barrier multiple times. He left the roadway, struck a tree, and overturned. Jones was pronounced deceased on-scene by the Wayne County Coroner; the roadway was closed during crash investigation and re-opened at approximately 4:30 a.m. Illinois State Police Division of Criminal Investigation Zone 8 has released the video of an officer-involved shooting in the Hamilton County Sheriff's Office in McLeansboro on October 20th, 2021. 30-year-old Herrin resident Aaron J.
