Oman upstream oil and gas activity at high levels

Notwithstanding a commitment to capping crude production in line with a global output reduction pledge reached by Opec and non-Opec producers, activity levels in Oman’s oil and gas sector will continue to be sustained at peak highs, according to a top official of the Ministry of Oil & Gas.
The goal, says Ministry Under-Secretary Salim bin Nasser al Aufi (pictured), is to build capacity at the upstream end of the business in order that when the global production caps are eventually lifted or scaled back, the Sultanate can spring back to optimum production levels literally in a snap.

Oman’s Public Authority for Mining (PAM) is formulating a new mining exploration and development strategy, underpinned by a Single Window System for the issuance of new licenses, to help unleash the potential of the country’s prodigious mineral resources, according to a top official.
Eng Hilal al Busaidi, Chief Executive Officer, said the Single Window System will allow interested investors to apply for investment-ready blocks or concessions for development, with all of the required permits already in place.
“We are preparing a general strategy for the mining sector that will identify targets and milestones for the development of this industry over the long-term,” said Eng Al Busaidi. “Our expectation from all of the data available so far is that Oman has a lot of minerals metallic and non-metallic but additional appraisal is necessary in order to attract investment in developmen

The new Suhar Airport’s rapidly growing importance as a potential aviation hub will receive a further boost upon the establishment of a major aviaiton training academy, formal agreements for which are due to be signed here tomorrow.

Move to develop Customs Bonded Warehouses in Oman

MUSCAT, SEPT 16 - Promising headway is being made in preparing the groundwork for the growth of Customs Bonded Warehouses at key locations around the Sultanate a move that could potentially add RO 100 million annually to the Gross Domestic Product when it is a reality tentatively by the year 2020. The initiative is being spearheaded by Tanfeedh the National Programme for Enhancing Economic Diversification with the support of a number of stakeholders, notably the Royal Oman Police Customs, Ministry of Transport and Communications, Ministry of Commerce and Industry, Oman Global Logistics Group (ASYAD), Second and Third Party Logistics firms, and shipping and freight forwarding agencies.
Sultanate’s first solar salt refinery set for Q3 launch

The Sultanate’s first salt refinery is currently under construction at Ras Bantoot near Duqm on Oman’s Wusta coast.
Well-known oil and gas services Al Ghalbi International Engineering & Contracting LLC (GIE) is investing in excess of RO 10 million in the establishment of a 135,000 metric tonnes (MT) per annum capacity plant.
Conceived in line with the government’s In-Country Value (ICV) strategy, the project will go a long way in meeting the domestic demand for industrial salt which is currently sourced entirely via imports.
