The new Suhar Airport’s rapidly growing importance as a potential aviation hub will receive a further boost upon the establishment of a major aviaiton training academy, formal agreements for which are due to be signed here tomorrow.
Together with sizeable passenger throughput capacity and significant air cargo handling capability as well, Suhar Airport has the potential to evolve into a gateway of wider regional importance, as is already evident from the groundswell of interest shown by a number of GCC carriers recently, say experts.
The Omani Authority for Partnership for Development (OAPFD), which is overseeing the implementation of investments and initiatives under the national offset programme, is spearheading the establishment of the Sultanate’s first aviation academy at Suhar. The Authority has roped in some of the world’s best known commercial airline training services providers in the development and operation of the facility.
