Warrington Council has signed off a change of use application, allowing the development of a “shop front” for the University of Chester at the town centre mixed-use scheme.
The 15,400 sq ft project is part of the university’s plans for town centre provision, as it seeks to relocate teaching provision from the Padgate campus, now deemed unfit for purpose, over the next year.
Terms were agreed in principle at the Time Square development in January, with the purchase of the 23,000 sq ft Mersey Bank House in Barbauld Street following in March – this will house the majority of teaching space in education and nursing.

Bolton-based real estate investor Park Equity Invest wants to create a 74-apartment scheme on the site of the Wilson Patten Street office building.
Arpley House would be demolished to make way for the four-storey development but part of the existing door surround would be retained and displayed in the communal residents’ garden, according to architect Falconer Chester Hall.
The new development would make “more efficient use of the footprint” and incorporates basement car parking spaces, ground floor cycle storage and residents’ lobby, the architect added.
A planning application has been submitted and is awaiting approval by Warrington Council.
Every seat in the town is up for grabs as voters go to the polls. Warrington Borough Council is composed of 58 councillors, with Labour holding control going into the elections. The party is defending its 43 seats on the council, while the Liberal Democrats have 11, three independents and one Tory. Each of the parties have set out why residents should vote for them. Labour’s Cllr Russ Bowden – who is aiming to remain as council leader – said: “Warrington is the best place to live and work in the UK.
Cllr Russ Bowden “This proud accolade has been hard earned by all of us, working together. You can vote to keep Warrington moving forward and becoming an even better place to live, bring up a family, work and enjoy your life.
