Million people in Liverpool, Preston and Lancashire told to get Covid test if they have runny nose

A million people in the North West of England have been told to take a Covid test if they have a runny nose, as part of a clampdown on a mutated virus detected in the region. Normally, Brits are told only to get tested if they develop the three most common Covid symptoms – a fever, continuous cough and loss of smell or taste.  But residents in the Liverpool city region, Preston and Lancashire, have been urged by health bosses to get swabbed if they have even the slightest suspicion they are ill.  It comes after more than 40 cases of an altered strain of the original virus, which carries a mutation experts fear makes vaccines less potent, was spotted in the three areas. 

Place North West | Land rejig to unlock Southern Gateway

Dan Whelan Warrington Council is to approve the relocation of the town’s bus depot, which would then free up land around Wilderspool Causeway for the creation of up to 1,300 homes.  Plans for a new-build bus station on Dallam Lane, proposed by Wire Regeneration – a joint venture between Warrington Council and developer Langtree – were approved in 2019.  As well as more than 1,000 homes, Wire Regeneration’s vision for the Southern Gateway of Warrington includes a commercial area fronting the south side of Bridgefoot and the River Mersey, enhanced public spaces, and a hotel.  Approval by the council’s cabinet is the next step required to progress the redevelopment of the Southern Gateway area.

Dan Whelan A 113,000 sq ft office block, the fifth to come forward under English Cities Fund’s central Salford masterplan, and RJR Securities’ 16-storey hotel have been granted planning approval by Salford City Council.  Plot A3 New Bailey  Make Architects designed the scheme Developer: English Cities Fund Architect: Make Architects   Planner: Avison Young   The 12-storey office block, which features a distinctive planted façade, would be built on New Bailey’s plot A3, on a site on the corner of Trinity Way and Irwell Street previously earmarked for a 33-storey apartment block.   Plans for the office, which features ground floor retail or leisure space, were lodged last November, after the developer opted to pursue further commercial development “on the basis that the office market is presently performing well at New Bailey”, the scheme’s planning consultant Avison Young said.
