The Center s Executive Director, Laura Orleans joins Townsquare Sunday to discuss the new exhibit, entitled More Than A Job: Work and Community in New Bedford s Commercial Fishing Industry. A soft opening will take place this month, with a grand opening set for June 25-26. Laura is also recruiting a new round of volunteers for the Fishing Heritage Center. Lasagna Love Spreads Joy During the Pandemic [TOWNSQUARE SUNDAY] Some might call it a pandemic miracle. Just over a year ago, prompted by the COVID-19 struggles facing families in her neighborhood, Rhiannon Menn founded an organization called Lasagna Love. She and others began delivering lasagna dinners to families hard hit by the pandemic. Thanks mostly to word of mouth, Lasagna Love started to take hold. An appearance on NBC s Today show sent interest soaring, and volunteers all over the country began baking lasagna meals for those having a rough time because of COVID-19. New Bedford Group Funds Animal Oxygen Masks [TOWNSQUARE SUNDAY]

The Coalition for Animals and New Bedford s Public Safety Departments are asking for the public s help in replenishing the city s supply of animal oxygen masks. The supply was pretty much wiped out on March 21 when the New Bedford Fire Department responded to a fire at 303 County Street. Three people were rescued from the burning two-and-a-half-story structure, along with 24 cats. However, more than 30 cats perished in the fire. Get our free mobile app Coalition for Animals Vice President Sandy Quadros Bowles and New Bedford Acting Fire Chief Scott Kruger joined Townsquare Sunday this week to discuss the County Street fire, and the fundraising effort to raise money for the oxygen masks.
