CHETWYND, B.C – Community members in Chetwynd are voicing their concerns after unannounced gas flaring at the Sukunka Natural Resources Inc gas plant.
In a release Friday, Unifor shared the communities concerns towards the flaring, stating the plant has burned sour gas for more than 96 hours over the past week. Unifor Local 449 is reportedly on strike.
The union calls the reasoning behind the activity “poor planning by plant managers” as they rush to dispose of millions of cubic feet of sour gas.
The burning and the facility and surrounding pipelines have led to odours in the surrounding areas.
