JOHN, B.C – The owner of Northern Rockies Fitness says she’s prepared for when travel restrictions are lifted due to help from the BC Tourism Resiliency Network.  Northern Rockies Fitness was created by Jocelyn McDonald five years ago, offering Nothern BC hiking retreats. She experienced limited cancellations once the province went into a state of emergency last year due to the pandemic, but that changed when travel restrictions were put in place. Now she is focusing on local with help from the BC Tourism Resiliency Network. The program was created by the BC Regional Tourism Secretariat to support operators within the North, Cariboo, Thompson-Okanagan, Kootenays and Vancouver Island.

Northern Health Region adds 102 new cases over weekend, eased restrictions on horizon

BC CDC COVID-19 dashboard. (BC CDC) VICTORIA, B.C. – The Northern Health Region added 102 new cases of COVID-19 over the weekend, raising the active case count to 318. There were five cases from Sunday to Monday. There are 17 people in hospital, 12 of whom are in Critical Care. The region had no COVID-19 related deaths over the weekend, keeping the total at 109. ),whenLoaded(initFlexitive); Provincial COVID-19 data B.C. added 1,462 new cases over the weekend, dropping the active case count to 4,854. There were 545 cases from Friday to Saturday, 532 cases from Saturday to Sunday, and 385 cases from Sunday to Monday. There are 240 people in hospital, 66 of whom are in Critical Care.

Woodlawn Cemetery change to support memorials placed

(Energeticity) FOR ST. JOHN, B.C – The city is set to construct concrete foundation runners at Woodlawn Cemetery to provide support for memorials being placed. Council approved design amendments to Phase one of the Woodlawn Cemetery expansion project Monday to add the reinforced concrete. Construction is estimated to cost $155,100, which will be allocated from the 2021 capital budget. Concrete runners are reinforced concrete placed at the head of the plot, according to a Public Works and Utilities report presented to council on March 8th. The city is aiming to install the runners between narrow rows of plots. ),whenLoaded(initFlexitive); “This design amendment facilitates operational efficiencies for cemetery maintenance,” says CAO Milo MacDonald in the March 8th report.
