PNG in Dawson Creek for meter reading updates

(Stock photo) DAWSON CREEK, B.C. – Pacific Northern Gas Ltd. (PNG) is in Dawson Creek, heading house to house to inspect gas meters. In a statement, Dawson Creek RCMP says the workers will be wearing high-visibility vests and will have PNG badges on them. PNG will be installing automated meter reading (AMR) technology on existing meters for customers within Northeast BC. Currently, they’re in Dawson Creek and area and should be in Fort St. John later in the spring. The new meters will benefit customers by ensuring billing accuracy, increasing customer convenience, and providing cost savings. PNG will be doing contactless installations, which should take no longer than 15 minutes.

Federal government announces $40 5M Clarke Lake geothermal project

(Ryan Dickie) FORT NELSON, B.C. – The federal government announced $40.5 million to the Clarke Lake Geothermal Project on Friday. “The technology that was applied to natural gas exploration is being adapted to geothermal energy development in exciting ways,” says Fort Nelson mayor Gary Foster. “The repurposing of idle gas fields is such an innovative idea that will benefit the entire country and set us on a path for a cleaner future, not just for ourselves, but for the planet.” Canada’s Minister of Natural Resources, the Honourable Seamus O’Regan Jr., announced the federal investment for the project, wholly-owned by the Fort Nelson and Saulteau First Nations, to develop Canada’s first commercially viable geothermal electricity production facilities.

PRRD board approves Rose Prairie water station closure

Rose Prairie tankloader. (Jeff McDonald, PRRD) DAWSON CREEK, B.C – The Rose Prairie water station is officially closed after approval from the Peace River Regional District board. The decision was made at the March 11th meeting after a recommendation from the Electoral Area Directors Committee. Explosive gas levels were detected in the air within the treatment storage tank and the station’s well casing on February 21st, the day before opening. There was no trace of gas detected before the last check-up before the opening date, and believe the water chemistry changed after February 19th. The source water is from a well contained in a small pump house, 1.4 km from the bulk tankloader.
