Kincardine citizens push back against hospital's CT scanner choice

KINCARDINE, ONT.
Work is already underway to bring the Kincardine Hospital its first ever CT scanner.
“We’re very excited to be installing a new CT scanner at the Kincardine site of the South Bruce Grey Health Centre. We’re moving forward with the installation, sometime this fall,” says South Bruce Grey Health Centre CEO Michael Barrett.
But not everybody is happy with the CT scanner the hospital board has chosen. It has decided to install the Siemens Edge Plus, cheaper and newer - not the Siemens Drive, more expensive, but considered superior by many.
“The community wants the best for us. We’re a growing a community. We can support it. We’re great with community fundraising, so there’s no reason we shouldn’t have it,” says Judi Brown, a long-time Kincardine resident. ....

Over 200 people tuned in to a community information session on Tuesday, January 26, to discuss the hospital corporation’s board of director’s choice this past December to install the Edge Plus CT scanner from Siemens at the Kincardine Hospital.
This model was chosen by the hospital board and announced to the public on November 4 of last year, despite the physicians group recommending the Drive CT scanner. ....

MPP Lisa, as you are no doubt aware there is much discussion in Kincardine regarding the purchase of a Cat Scan machine for the Kincardine hospital. The Kincardine doctors committee has recommended to the Hospital Board that a Siemens “Drive“ machine is, in their view, the best machine to purchase. The Board has recommended a Siemens “Edge Plus” machine.
The Board’s position is that the Edge is cheaper, even though they admit the Drive CT is better. The Drive machine is also the one that the Walkerton hospital has; having a similar machine in Kincardine is, to me, logical as they are a part of the same hospital group. Also there are no Edge Plus machines in use in Canada! ....
