BAY CITY, MI - The Bay City Commission is reviewing its “pay as you throw” system for trash, which Parks and Environmental Affairs Manager Tim Botzau said has been a nightmare for customers and staff.

BAY CITY, MI - New legislation recently set the stage for other municipalities to follow in Bay City’s footsteps by entering into public-private partnerships for infrastructure improvements.
Gov. Gretchen Whitmer put the final stamp of approval on a set of bills that allow municipalities throughout the state to engage with private companies to improve aging bridge infrastructure and to authorize the implementation of tolling measures.
Senate Bills 1215-1218, now PA 353-356, were introduced in mid-November by Senator Ken Horn, R-Frankenmuth, Jeremy Moss, D-Southfield, and Wayne Schmidt, R-Traverse City. ....

BAY CITY, MI - The City of Bay City is postponing the reopening of its municipal offices for a second time due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
In keeping with the extended Michigan Department of Health and Human Services Epidemic Order ‘‘Pause to Save Lives’, the city announced that all municipal offices will remain closed to the public until Jan. 18, 2021, with scheduled reopening to the public on Jan. 19.
All municipal Bay City offices were closed to the public beginning on Wednesday, Nov. 18. The offices were expected to reopen on Dec. 14, however, a previous extension to the epidemic order on Dec. 7 pushed the reopening date for Bay City facilities until Jan. 4. The new date is now mid January. ....

Change to flashing yellow traffic lights in downtown Bay City is ‘horrible mistake,’ business owner says

BAY CITY, MI - Some business owners in downtown Bay City are upset by the city’s recent decision to change standard traffic lights at the district’s main intersections to flashing yellow and red signals.
The Bay City Commission unanimously approved a traffic control order in November based on an engineering study that said four-way stops aren’t needed. Several signals now act as two-way stops, with flashing yellows on Washington, one of the city’s main thoroughfares.
“People cannot turn left, they can’t see – I’m very worried about someone getting hit or killed to tell you the truth,” said Barbara Bosco, owner and president of Herman Hiss & Co., 905 Washington Ave. ....
