BAY CITY, MI - The Bay City Commission approved two modifications to its agreements with the private company that is preparing to take over and implement tolls on the Liberty and Independence bridges.
Commissioners unanimously approved amendments to both the Acquisition and Development Agreement (ADA) and the Operations and Maintenance Agreement (O&M) with United Bridge Partners (UBP) and its subsidiary Bay City Bridge Partners (BCBP) during a virtual meeting on Monday, April 19. The amendments come as the city and UBP has moved towards a lease-based situation regarding the Liberty and Independence B ....

The City of Bay Cityis reminding residents to remove cars from the road during high snowfall events, such as the storm that is predicted to hit overnight from Monday, Feb. 15 through Tuesday, Feb. 16.

BAY CITY, MI - Bay City residents were reminded during the Monday, Feb. 15 regular meeting about needing to move their vehicles off the road as a winter storm sets its sights on the area.
A winter storm is expected to hit the Bay County area, with the National Weather Service predicting possible snow accumulations ranging from 3 to 5 inches overnight from Monday, Feb. 15 through Tuesday, Feb. 16. As of Monday night, the NWS issued a winter weather advisory for the county that stated snow is expected to start at 10 p.m. and continue through the early morning hours, with northwest winds of 20 to 25 mph forecast ....

BAY CITY, MI - Several new businesses coming to Bay City have city officials looking for ways to prepare financially against losses from the possibility of large unpaid utility bills.
During its Tuesday, Jan. 19 virtual meeting, the Bay City Commission opted to receive two ordinance amendments for a first reading that deal with instituting deposits for commercial utility customers who are expected to incur monthly bills past a threshold of $50,000. The ordinance amendments will be presented at the next commission meeting on Feb. 1 for a second reading and possible adoption. ....

Change to flashing yellow traffic lights in downtown Bay City is ‘horrible mistake,’ business owner says

BAY CITY, MI - Some business owners in downtown Bay City are upset by the city’s recent decision to change standard traffic lights at the district’s main intersections to flashing yellow and red signals.
The Bay City Commission unanimously approved a traffic control order in November based on an engineering study that said four-way stops aren’t needed. Several signals now act as two-way stops, with flashing yellows on Washington, one of the city’s main thoroughfares.
“People cannot turn left, they can’t see – I’m very worried about someone getting hit or killed to tell you the truth,” said Barbara Bosco, owner and president of Herman Hiss & Co., 905 Washington Ave. ....
