Lisle mayoral candidate Stephen A. Winz failed in his bid for mayor after several incidents in his past came to light during his campaign. With 93.33% of precincts reporting, Winz had 903 votes, coming in behind Christopher R. Chris Pecak with 1,498 votes and ahead of Sara Sadat with 755 votes. Winz, a village trustee, was involved in a bar fight in 2017 after he allegedly harassed a one-legged man. In a police report by Lisle Police Officer Jason Hurt regarding the incident, Hurt wrote that one witness stated that Winz was rude to the one-legged guy, and after identifying that person, he noted everyone was refusing to talk with the officers or were giving different versions of the event. ....

When Lisle mayoral candidate Stephen A. Winz was arrested in 2016 for disorderly conduct, he threatened officers after they were called when he was accused of paying with a fake $100 bill. In the arrest report, Officer James Dexter said when Winz, currently a Lisle trustee, was in booking, he shouted at and threatened officers. “At 4:56am Winz decided to leave and gathered all his property,” Dexter wrote in the report. “As we were leaving out the side door Winz looked at me and stated ‘I hope all the niggers kill you, I swear to fucking God I hope they kill you all. Black Lives Matter.’” ....
In split vote, Lisle village board urges Pritzker to veto police reform bill
Updated 2/16/2021 10:00 PM Lisle trustees narrowly approved a resolution urging Gov. J.B. Pritzker to veto a sweeping criminal justice reform bill. The 4-3 vote Monday by the village board takes aim at House Bill 3653, which was passed by the General Assembly in the final hours of a January session before lawmakers new terms began.
Lisle s resolution criticizes several unfunded regulatory mandates in House Bill 3653, including testing, record keeping and the implementation of body cameras. If signed by the governor, the legislation would make it easier to decertify and fire problematic officers, eliminate cash bail by 2023 and mandate body cameras by 2025, among other provisions. ....
Updated 12/23/2020 6:19 PM Police have identified a Chicago man as the driver who was killed early Tuesday morning in a one-car crash after a high-speed chase in Lisle. Marcus L. Thomas, 30, died from injuries he suffered when the 2020 Honda Accord he was driving crashed on an entrance ramp at I-88 and Naper Boulevard.
Minutes earlier, at 1:13 a.m., a Lisle police officer had observed Thomas driving 20 mph over the speed limit near the 1500 block of Ogden Avenue. The officer pulled the driver over, police said in a news release. As the officer waited for backup, he was notified the car had been reported stolen in Chicago on Dec. 16. Thomas then sped away on westbound Ogden. ....
