A Lisle man faces another charge that he impersonated a Chicago police officer this time in Downers Grove.
Vincent M. Richardson, 26, of the 900 block of Lacey Avenue, faces one felony count in DuPage County of false personation of a police officer.

Downers Grove police allege that around 5:15 a.m. Jan. 26, Richardson entered an Amazon distribution center at 3800 Finley Road and told a supervisor he was a police officer. He was wearing a Chicago Police Department uniform with police patches and insignia, plus a police duty belt, according to the complaint. ....

'The best bagels in Chicago': Lisle trustees eager for Schmaltz Deli to move to town

Lisle trustees have agreed to provide $85,000 in grant funding to help Schmaltz Deli move its flagship from Naperville to a vacant restaurant on Ogden Avenue.
If all goes as planned, the traditional Jewish delicatessen would open in the new spot in September, bringing its fan base and old-school menu to Lisle.

The family-owned deli still needs to clear several hurdles to make the move, but the village already is putting out the welcome mat.
I m from New York, and these are the best bagels in Chicago, Trustee Marie Hasse said.
The village board has given preliminary approval to the deli s grant request. A formal vote is expected on April 5. ....

Educare West DuPage gets $1.1 million grant for early childhood education

The office of Rep. Lauren Underwood (IL-14) recently announced that the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services has awarded Educare West DuPage $1,112,540 to strengthen their Early Head Start early education program.
Educare West DuPage is a part of a national network of Head Start providers working to ensure more children have access to high-quality early education.

Early Head Start is one of the most successful federal anti-poverty programs that ensures young children have high-quality learning opportunities. I m proud to support this program for families in our community, and am grateful to the dedicated teachers and staff who serve in Early Head Start classrooms, Underwood said. Schmaltz Deli is like one of its overstuffed pastrami sandwiches: It keeps getting bigger.
The Jewish deli opened its first outpost in downtown Wheaton last year. And now, Schmaltz is looking to relocate its flagship from a Naperville strip mall to a vacant, stand-alone Lisle restaurant that would give the deli even more visibility and room to grow.

Lisle trustees on Monday will review the deli s request for grant funding to renovate and move into to the former Chinn s 34th Street Fishery after 16 years in Naperville. ....

College of DuPage Job Shadow Program goes virtual to overcome challenges of COVID-19

When the COVID-19 pandemic severely limited the College of DuPage Career Services Center s plans for its first Job Shadow program cohort in spring 2020, staff members adjusted their approach to provide students virtual one-on-one experiences with professionals in the workforce.
Through the program, COD students are matched with a local employer for single-day experiential learning events. In preparation for the experience, students complete an etiquette and info workshop hosted by the Career Services Center and are provided guidance for their job shadow experience.

Prior to COVID-19, 18 COD students had been accepted out of 56 applicants to shadow professionals in their chosen fields. When shutdowns and social distancing came as a result of the pandemic, Career Services staff reacted quickly to set up virtual chats between three students and their matched career professionals, including personnel at organizations such as Argonne Nationa ....
