Some Naperville, Lisle, Villa Park and Downers Grove incumbents lose reelection bids

Voters on Tuesday put three new people on the Naperville City Council and gave a longtime Aurora alderman another four years to help run the second-largest city in the state, according to unofficial results.
And in Lisle, Villa Park and Downers Grove, some incumbents lost their seats.
County clerks won t declare official results until April 21, as they wait for provisional votes, grace-period votes and outstanding vote-by-mail ballots to arrive.
Naperville
Three newcomers and one incumbent appear to have won an 11-person race for four seats on the Naperville City Council.

LISLE, IL Downers Grove voters will head to the polls Tuesday, April 6, to cast their votes for mayor and village clerk. Voters will also choose new members for the Lisle Village Board of Trustees and Lisle Community Unit District 202 Board of Education.

Mayor of Lisle
As he runs for a second term, incumbent Mayor Christopher Chris R. Pecak faces challenges from current Lisle Village Trustees Sara Sadat and Stephen A. Winz in the 2021 consolidated election.

Lisle trustees have agreed to provide $85,000 in grant funding to help Schmaltz Deli move its flagship from Naperville to a vacant restaurant on Ogden Avenue.
If all goes as planned, the traditional Jewish delicatessen would open in the new spot in September, bringing its fan base and old-school menu to Lisle.
The family-owned deli still needs to clear several hurdles to make the move, but the village already is putting out the welcome mat. I m from New York, and these are the best bagels in Chicago, Trustee Marie Hasse said.
The village board has given preliminary approval to the deli s grant request. A formal vote is expected on April 5.
In split vote, Lisle village board urges Pritzker to veto police reform bill

Lisle trustees narrowly approved a resolution urging Gov. J.B. Pritzker to veto a sweeping criminal justice reform bill.
The 4-3 vote Monday by the village board takes aim at House Bill 3653, which was passed by the General Assembly in the final hours of a January session before lawmakers new terms began.
Lisle s resolution criticizes several unfunded regulatory mandates in House Bill 3653, including testing, record keeping and the implementation of body cameras. If signed by the governor, the legislation would make it easier to decertify and fire problematic officers, eliminate cash bail by 2023 and mandate body cameras by 2025, among other provisions.
