Despite lockdown, Ghaziabad roads nearly as deadly as Covid in April and May | Noida News

Ghaziabad: Over 300 people were killed on Ghaziabad roads in April and May this year.
The figure is only slightly less than the Covid toll, despite the district being in lockdown for the consecutive months.
According to official figures, as many as 310 lives were lost in Ghaziabad in road accidents in the two months, only marginally less than the 343 lives claimed by Covid in the same period.
If that data itself does not raise concerns, it is also worth noting that as many as 453 people (official toll) have succumbed to Covid in Ghaziabad so far, but in comparison, this year alone has seen 524 fatalities in road crashes as per data accessed from the traffic department. ....

Hindon elevated road reopens partially after three months | Noida News

Ghaziabad: After about three months, the Hindon elevated road from Karhera to UP Gate has been partially reopened. Now commuters from Raj Nagar Extension can use the 6km stretch up to Kanawani area in Indirapuram. This has brought the much-needed respite for residents, who had been facing problems accessing the road since the beginning of the farmers’ agitation.
“The Hindon elevated road from Raj Nagar Extension to UP Gate, which was closed in December last year due to the farmers’ protest, has now been partially reopened for motorists,” said Ramanand Kushwaha, SP (traffic). “Commuters can now use the stretch up to Indirapuram and get off from the Kanawani ramp. The stretch from Kanawani to UP Gate will, however, continue to remain out of bounds for traffic,” he added. ....

GHAZIABAD: Farmers’ outfits protesting at the UP-Delhi borders, including several factions of the Bharatiya Kisan Union (BKU) pressed for a route change to their Republic Day tractor parade all of Monday and met several police and senior local administration officials to be allowed to go up to Akshardham.
The demand took officials by surprise because the parade routes from the Chilla and Ghazipur borders, which the outfits sought a change to, were finalised on Sunday after talks with Delhi Police. However, through Monday, representatives of the unions insisted on taking the tractors towards Akshardham from Ghazipur and Chilla. The approved route from Ghazipur is towards the Apsara border and Hapur Road. ....
