The 74-year-old actress stole the show during an otherwise staid 93rd Annual Academy Awards during a between-awards segment featuring actor Lil Rey Howery and Questlove where Howery quizzed Oscars attendees on a bit of movie music trivia. With a little help from Questlove s emceeing skills, Howery asked Best Actress nominee Close about whether or not she recognized the 1988 track Da Butt by the Washington D.C.-based go-go band E.U. (Experience Unlimited). Wait a second! I know this! That s Da Butt! said Close after Howery asked if she recognized the cult favorite dance track. It was a classic song by the great Washington D.C. go-go band E.U. Shout-out to Sugar Bear and the Backyard Band and the whole D.M.V.Spike Lee had it written for his movie

The Oscars continued its long-standing tradition of not nailing the ending (coughLaLaLandMoonlightcough) at the 2021 Academy Awards with a very anti-climatic conclusion that overshadowed what was mostly a pleasant and history-making event.

It seems only fitting that the star of “Hillbilly Elegy” the butt of the 2021 awards cycle would perform “Da Butt” dance during the Oscars telecast.
While playing a game of “name that song” during an unexpected break in Sunday night’s proceedings, actor Lil Rel Howery turned the spotlight on screen icon Glenn Close, who floored the crowd and the internet with her bootylicious dance moves.
The Los Angeles Times has confirmed that Close’s twerk-tastic performance was part of a scripted bit designed for laughs. It worked, as evidenced by Twitter users who promptly lost their minds.
“I did not have Glenn close doing da butt on my Oscar bingo card but here we are,” tweeted author Roxane Gay.

Oscars 2021winners are sure to be celebrating their success after a tough year like 2020. Despite a great show of diversity at the 93rd Academy Awards this year, fans of late actor Chadwick Boseman are not happy. The Black Panther star, who died of colon cancer last year, became the first black actor to be nominated posthumously for an Oscar ever for his performance in Ma Rainey s Black Bottom.
Chadwick Boseman was nominated in the Best Actor in a Leading Role category for this George C. Wolfe film. While his fans were certain of the late star’s Oscar win, they were sorely disappointed when Sir Anthony Hopkins for The Father was declared the winner in the category which was announced at the very end of the socially distanced Oscars ceremony.
