Because the Broussard Police Chief is an elected position, Decou sent his resignation letter Monday to Louisiana Secretary of State Kyle Ardoin and Mayor Ray Bourque. Decou had been on voluntary leave since April 28. After much consideration, I have decided it is in the best interest of the community and my family that I retire from my position as chief of police, Decou said in his letter. I will take some much needed rest, and allow someone else to take over with a fresh set of ideas that hopefully will continue the forward momentum that our city deserves. ....
View Comments Broussard Police Chief Brannon Decou is taking a voluntary leave of absence while the city conducts an investigation after it received an envelope of text messages. Decou notified Mayor Ray Bourque and the city council Tuesday that he would take the voluntary leave until the completion of the investigation, the city s Director of Tourism and Communications Holly Cope-Lynn said in a statement. His decision was based on advice on best practices from the city s attorneys, Cope-Lynn said. In a statement, Bourque said he agreed with the chief s decision in order to protect the integrity of the investigation. “Above all, it is our duty to protect the employees, the people, and the reputation of our great city and to allow due process, he said. We take seriously our responsibility and the trust placed in us by the people to lead, especially during challenging times.” ....
