Built in the 1950 s the Holyoke Soldiers Home needs renovation and expansion said families of current veteran residents and those who died during the COVID-19 spread.
HOLYOKE The House of Representatives will try on Wednesday to reinstate a portion of the $600 million Holyoke Soldiers’ Home bond bill that Gov. Charlie Baker vetoed, even though his administration says the rejected clause could jeopardize the entire project.
Several local legislators said they do not believe the bill’s Project Labor Agreement, requiring union labor to be used during construction, will hurt the project. But it will help workers, they said. ....

Nail salons also opened up on Friday, with smiling owners and customers delighted to be back in their chairs.
Csilla Domokos, proprietor of C S Nails on the Mountjoy Road in Omagh, said she had missed coming to work every day and seeing her clients.
“We are really happy and our clients are really happy as well. The last four months were difficult,” Csilla said. ....

HOLYOKE – The city’s public school system has set dates for high school graduations and senior year events.
Acting Superintendent Anthony Soto updated the School Committee Monday on graduation and senior events for May and June.
A majority of staff and students favored separate graduations for the Holyoke High School North and Dean Campuses. Both schools formed graduation task forces, which comprise students, teachers, parents, school district and health officials.
The North Campus graduation occurs Sunday, June 6 at 1 p.m., with Class Day scheduled for June 4. Cap and Gown Day is May 15 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. ....

Murphy was recently sworn in as acting mayor and will serve until shortly after the November election.
John Brunelle of B and B Real Estate said the city’s greatest asset is Holyoke Gas & Electric. The city “dropped the ball” in not allowing the expansion of the area’s natural gas supply, he said.
In the past year, Brunelle said, developers “lost opportunities” as HG&E imposed a natural gas moratorium on new residential and commercial customers. More than 100 potential customers had to find alternative fuel sources, he said. ....
