Holyoke City Council proceeds with Home Rule Petition in wake of Mayor Alex Morse resignation Updated Mar 17, 2021; HOLYOKE – The City Council on Tuesday passed a home rule petition to eliminate a special election and require the council president to serve as acting mayor once Alex B. Morse resigns. Morse plans to leave office March 26 at 4:30 p.m. to become town manager of Provincetown. The council formally accepted Morse’s resignation letter Tuesday. The home rule petition also states the winner of the mayoral race in November would immediately be sworn in, rather than waiting for the typical January inauguration. Council President Todd McGee has said work commitment and potential conflicts of interest make him unable to be a full-time acting mayor. But he said Tuesday he could serve in a temporary capacity until the petition is passed or rejected by the state Legislature. During St. Patrick’s season, the Log Cabin becomes a second home for the parade committee, which hosts a series of elegant events that attract local, state and national dignitaries. Each year the banquet and meeting facility is the site of the Grand Marshal’s Reception in January, followed by the Grand Colleen Coronation Ball in February. ....
Tributes paid as Dundalk legend Liam Reilly is laid to rest today Reporter: ); ); A flood of tributes have been paid to Bagatelle frontman Liam Reilly remembering the legendary Dundalk musician as a “true artist” and one of the country’s “greatest songwriters”. Liam, who wrote the much-loved song Summer In Dublin which resonated with a whole generation and became an Irish classic, passed away suddenly but peacefully in his home in Dundalk on New Year’s Day at the age of 65. The musician’s family said: “We know that his many friends and countless fans around the world will share in our grief as we mourn his loss, but celebrate the extraordinary talent of the man whose songs meant so much to so many.” ....

In November, Marrero announced he would resign his post in the Planning Department effective Jan. 22. Outgoing state Rep. Aaron Vega, D-Holyoke, was named Marrero’s replacement shortly after that.
